We’ve lost 150 euros from an apartment booking, but they have given us a voucher
That’s valid for 18 months so if we go back there
We can reuse it
So not too bad really
Oh lost out a bit in some flights too by about 100 quid as we swapped them to next year and those flights were at a less premium time so
Not too bad all in

£500 for DS's school trip were promised a 'check in the post' but not arrived. Some have had cheques but conviniently were counter signed wrongly.

£1000 not returned from Cottages.com but have been told it could be 6 weeks

Aragog · 06/08/2020 14:30

No, we've been very fortunate to have had all our money back.

Easter - trip to France:

  • EasyJet refunded is, though took a number of emails, tweets and calls - booking.com accommodation was refunded immediately even though it was booked in the non refundable rate - got a voucher for the airport hotel and parking

Summer - we actually still went away. Only change we made was to come home a day early as we were concerned they might add France to the non exempt list. Again booking.com refunded us the hotel despite being within 24 hours and on non refundable. The London hotel and the change to Eurostar costs can to less than the refunded hotel amount.

We have an October holiday booked too, but don't have to pay full amount til 3 weeks before. We would lose the deposit of about £500 potentially.

About £200 between a voucher for BA and refund due from EJ

RosieLemonade · 06/08/2020 15:06

We got a full refund from TUI for Tenerife flights as they stopped flying from our local airport.
This was weeks before the new quarantine rules.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/08/2020 15:11

Not lost anything, I had a package booked so I've been able to move it to next year.

minnieok · 06/08/2020 15:36

Nothing so far but I'm not one for booking ahead. Went away in February and got back before things went too crazy. Went away last week but stayed in UK. We hope to go away in November/December but won't book until that week.

ShanghaiDiva · 06/08/2020 15:51

Eventually got all my money back from finn air, Lufthansa and China southern. China southern was the easiest, flight cancelled and they refunded almost immediately. Finn Air was the most painful as it took nearly 5 months.

FeltCarrot · 06/08/2020 15:56

Still waiting for flights to Cape Town and Prague. Booked through Opodo. Been waiting since April. £2.5k.

bigbluebus · 06/08/2020 16:39

About £1400. (plus 2 friends lost same amount each) I didn't go on a 5* all inclusive holiday 2 days before Boris finally decided that it was not safe to travel. It was quite clear to me that it wasn't safe to travel a few days before our holiday was due to start and with more and more countries closing their borders I had no desire to be stranded anywhere. The country I was due to travel to did not shut its borders until after the UK.

HRHQueenMortificado · 06/08/2020 17:09

£500 each for DH and I on some flights were trying to get back but isn't going too well so I've written it off in my head if I get it back happy days it was just as trump closed the boarders to America but to be honest I'm happy to have lost the money to not get to my destination and be stranded or get a text like somebody I know 24 hours into their holiday saying they was coming home.

fussychica · 06/08/2020 18:51

Very fortunate had a mega tour through France and Spain with a 6 week villa stay at the end. Thsnkfully all accomodation costs refunded or free cancellation. Brittany Ferries gave us a voucher for the cancellation of our outward leg but they wouldn't give us a refund on the homeward leg as we hadn't paid more than the deposit at that stage. Totally loopy but wouldn't budge despite not running the outward service so how could travel home?? Anyway lost £90.

Thought we might just go to Spain next month but with rising cases there and masks anywhere outside have binned it off. Very disappointed but have "saved" several thousand by not going.

Valkadin · 06/08/2020 19:50

No because we always tend to book last minute, last year we did have a family wedding in America so that was booked months in advance.

TravellingSpoon · 06/08/2020 19:56

Ues, owed around £1100 from Ryanair from 2 sets of flights we were not able to take.

No idea when I am getting it back.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 06/08/2020 20:00

Sort of profited really!
I'd booked to go away March/April. After lots of crowing to colleagues worried about flights to distant places, my "I'm only going to Sussex, no problems with that", it was of course cancelled.

i was able to transfer the booking to any off peak week - now going at the beginning of September, which would have cost about £180 or £200 more.

Star21 · 06/08/2020 20:03

Lost £400 on a cruise deposit. The balance of £4k was due and I couldn’t bring myself to pay it knowing the cruise would be cancelled and I would have to fight for a refund so sacrificed the deposit to reduce the stress of it.

Breathmiller · 06/08/2020 20:04

We haven't been away as a family for 16 years. My grandmother dies last year and left me £1000. I decided to put it towardsa holiday that my adult children were also joining. We got our flights back but lost the £750 deposit for the holiday. The villa wouldn't refund it and our insurance says no! So all that money just gone. Totally gutted

zigzagbetty · 06/08/2020 20:06

£400 deposit lost cancelling a Spain holiday in September. Worth it not having the stress of whether it goes ahead or not.
Had 3 haven breaks booked aswell and all refunded fully, though have rebooked all for next year and upgraded the accommodation as most of it paid off!

trilbydoll · 06/08/2020 20:07

We've got vouchers for the ferry and campsite in France and rescheduled a Devon cottage to next year. Great results all round considering the circumstances.

Nosuchluck · 06/08/2020 20:09

Breathmiller sorry to hear that.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 06/08/2020 20:10

Luckily, no.

£3k refunded by TUI for our Easter Italy trip.
£750 deposit for our Whit UK holiday was transferred over to next year (we go every year).
London for the summer was only ever booked on a pay when you arrive and cancel up to the day before going and we'd not bought the train tickets yet.
Portugal at Oct half term with work colleages is looking like a bad idea so we've moved it to next Oct instead and going to Spain instead.

cptartapp · 06/08/2020 20:10

Nope. Easyjet swapped our flights to next year for free, and the lovely Greek hotelier rebooked us also for free, and gave us a refund for the one night less we are staying.

coffeeandteav · 06/08/2020 20:11

£900 ish on Ryanair flights to lisbon. The flight leaves on Saturday.

MrsR87 · 06/08/2020 20:19

No! We've been so lucky and I'm very grateful. We had a three day trip to a Europe booked for over Easter but got the £600 straight back from the hotel...they actually contacted us. After a bit of a battle, we recently got our £600 flights back too. We hadn't booked the Airport lounge as things were starting to go south with travel so all we lost was about £40 car park fees. We've been given a voucher valid for a year so we'll give it to someone who will use it.

Normally, we book our big Caribbean summer holiday before Christmas and so would have had around £8000 to fork out pretty much at the beginning of the pandemic. However as we knew we were trying for a baby this year, we didn't book anything and had the plan to potentially book last minute. So grateful that this was the case this year as we could have been in a proper pickle!

I feel so sorry for people who booked holidays before COVID was on our radars and have lost money. 😞

MrsR87 · 06/08/2020 20:20

@jarviscockatiel

We're still waiting on nearly £6000 due to the cancellation of my top of the bucket list holiday. Apparently we can use their voucher up till March 31st 2021. No good when my holiday time can't start until April 2nd due to being a teacher. DH is still trying to get the money back but it's a very slow frustrating process.
That's awful! It's so bad that they don't realise not all people can just take a holiday when they want. I hope they extend it for you!
FourTeaFallOut · 06/08/2020 20:32

None. We actually tried to book a villa in Portugal for the holidays but the owner refused the booking saying they'd stated the wrong fee. That was just after Christmas and we got lazy about it after that. It doesn't seem many weeks later and it was clear things were hotting up in China so we decided to hang fire and see what was to come of it.

So we've been really lucky. We do have a holiday in our caravan booked in the UK so we could still lose money yet but nothing significant compared to the thousands we could have burnt if the villa booking had been accepted.
