Help! 4 week old's milk consumption!

Why does my 4 week old drink so much milk - over 120ml - and still cry and flail in desperate panic when you take the bottle away? (Combination fed) Shouldn't he be satisfied by then? 120ml is the absolute max you are advised to feed from bottle each feed (assuming 8 daily feeds).

Give him more milk?

Try a dummy, he could want the comfort.

It could also be reflux. Over feeding and sucking for comfort from the pain.

How much is 120 in ounces? Is it 4oz?

You could always try him with five for one feed if he is draining the bottle. My DC never had what they were supposed to with milk.

Thanks, but... 120ml is the absolute max you are advised to feed from bottle... so surely we shouldn't just give him more milk?

Apparently 120ml = 4.2 fluid ounces

Why is 4oz the "absolute max"? Who told you that?

All babies are different, some will want/need more milk than others. Try 5oz, or paced feeding?

blacktop · 05/08/2020 23:39

Where are you getting this 'absolute maximum' ensuring from? Even the box says 150ml and that's just a guide?

Icloud54 · 05/08/2020 23:49

Babies all have different appetites, I would offer more milk!!

Dogssox · 06/08/2020 00:02

If you are combination feeding you could offer the breast.
Could be having a growth spurt and instinctively wants to suckle.

Mine are 13 and 10 now ,so it's a while since I had babies ,but I seem to remember that once they drained the bottles I upped them an Oz or 30mls
