What the heck has bitten me?!

Not going to post photo as it's too manky Confused Something has bitten me on the knee and it's come up in a huge yellow blister. It's really itchy and painful 😭 I've had a few of these (actually about 15-20, and til tonight thought I'd had the last of them) over the past week but never managed to catch what's bitten me - and it keeps happening while I'm in bed! Usually I spot (and squish) mozzies. This evil critter must be stealthy and silent!

Dog isn't scratching at all and had her jabs yesterday so surely the vet would have noticed if it were fleas? What horrible piece of evil insectness has decided to subject me to this?!

Looks like horsefly, my dd keeps getting them. Cold compress, anti histamine and a marker pen to mark out the red area. The more you rub it will get bigger.

Were used to it now!

cantstopsinginglittlebabybum · 05/08/2020 23:16

Sounds like a clef. They blister. I didn't even know I had been bitten until I saw the blood dripping from my arm. Blister is next stage and then the itching starts...

LillianBland · 05/08/2020 23:22

Just because your dog isn’t currently scratching, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t carried a flea into the house. He could have had just the one, that has either jumped off him onto the bed, or onto you and you’ve carried it to your bed. When was the last time he had flea treatment?

Weesweetiewife · 05/08/2020 23:46

Get them checked out by gp/nurse and swabbed for staph infection jic

Fudgewhizz · 06/08/2020 11:52

It reeeeeally hurts today! Going to mention it to the doctor when I see her tomorrow. Frigging midges! (Or whatever it is.... I don't think it's a horse fly because I'm sure I'd have seen it, and I can't see any sign of fleas - plus I've never reacted to a flea bite like this!)

I think it looks more like a plant allergic reaction too - very sore either way!

GlmPmum · 06/08/2020 13:57

This happens to me every year on holiday, wherever the bite i swell then blister. Ive put it down to spider bites or ants as never see or hear anything.

Usually take a antihistamine and put antiseptic cream on open sores.

TheMumblesofMumbledom · 06/08/2020 14:07

According to google that may be a blister beetle bite.

HazelBite · 06/08/2020 14:14

Many years ago we went camping in a Nature Reserve type place in Holland and I had bites that came up like that, I was in a bit of a state.
Occasionally I have mozzie bites that come up in blisters like that but not always.
Was told by someone who knows all about insects, that there are various varieties of mozzies about and a lot depends of which type has been breeding in your area.

EBearhug · 06/08/2020 14:39

you wouldn't get several horsefly bites.

You might. I did on a riverside walk in Germany, which I remember mostly for the bloody horseflies, which were definitely plural and all biting.

FluffyPersian · 06/08/2020 14:48

It could be a Mosquito. Just a really, really nasty bastard Mosquito.

I'm attaching the photos of the bites I got in Tuscany last May. I don't usually swell up or have a bad reaction, but the Mosquitoes in Italy LOVED me and I got all of these after visiting a Vineyard in long grass.

I went to the Doctors and they said if the redness continues to grow, then I'd need some antibiotics. I did take antihistamines and I also used Germolene as they hurt a lot.

Thankfully after drawing lots of rings around them, they did go down and over a year later I'd say 50% went without any scarring, 50% you can see really tiny marks (I also had 1 on my face, 1 on my neck and 2 on my other arm).

I hope you feel better soon.

I was about to suggest a reaction to the hogweed plant

Fudgewhizz · 06/08/2020 20:39

@FluffyPersian yes that's what my legs look like. This one has just got extra big! Not been near any hogweed (I'm allergic to grass anyway so always wear long trousers when out walking).

I'm on antibiotics for something else anyway so hopefully that'll preempt any issues! God I hope this goes down tonight... it's painful Confused

Spider bite? 🤔

WelshMoth · 06/08/2020 20:59

I had one in the same place years ago after lying down (belly down) in the grass. I felt the bite - I thought spider or beetle. It blistered and was sore for ages.

Given that you've had severe all
OP, I'd be taking an antihistamine and maybe asking your GP for advice.

WelshMoth · 06/08/2020 21:00

*several bites

sandycloud · 06/08/2020 21:09

I have a horse and often get a few bites together. Often take 24 hours to come up. I've been using neurofen gel and it's amazing. Stops the itching and reduces swelling.

You poor thing. I remember when I had them, I couldn't even walk where they were all over my feet... hope you've had some relief
QualityFeet · 07/08/2020 22:53

You can be allergic to mosquito bites - google - it has a name but can’t think of it - you get hello blisters and a bullseye rash too sometimes
