Universal credit biographical appointment help

ghostmous3 · 05/08/2020 20:01

Dp has moved in and my credits have stopped. We're now applying for universal credit which is fine

Dp has a phone call tomorrow to ask him questions which is tomorrow, awkward as hes at work but thinks he can get of the factory floor for a bit but they said they will be asking him for his bank details? Is this right? Does he give his sort code and account number and will they then look at what's in his bank..no prob if so..hes declared a little bit of savings he has.
Also they will be asking him for proof of rent costs etc. I pay the rent and it's my tenancy so until we can sort something out he has no proof of housing costs.

Does anyone know what else they ask? I've already given them details of my children on the claim so will they ask him about those?

Hes nervous about this. Hes not a phone person anyway and hes never claimed anything in his life not even job seekers hes always worked so all new to him

Thank you :)

They take bank details for the account the money is to be paid into. You need to explain that he has just moved in and the tenancy is in your name solely.

Are you doing a joint claim or just him?

ghostmous3 · 05/08/2020 20:48

It's a joint claim. But we put my bank down for payments to be put into

I dont understand why they need his then

And they should speak to me really

It's so vague. We are very confused by it all

If it's a joint claim you usually both have to make an online claim which is then linked up so makes one account and then you will both be telephoned etc. Doesnt make a difference who is working etc.

ghostmous3 · 05/08/2020 21:13

Weve already done it. Made a joint claim linked it up and sent the form off.

I'm guessing my phone call will be coming soon then

If you look on your journal they should be linked so usually it will have the same things happening on both accounts I.e he has a phone call and you will also have one as they are usually coordinated. We put ours on speaker to chat jointly as our calls were one after the other etc. Also you shoukd get an email or message to check accounts whenever they update your journal. It's easier to just check your account every couple days anyway. Hope this helps.

He could ask them to move the appointment to a more convenient time? They’ll be fine about changing it if he is at work. He just needs to tell them the bank and tenancy are in your name and you can deal with them.

ghostmous3 · 05/08/2020 21:33

it's just him that has the phone call. We checked the journal and they've literally gave him 20 hours notice. He wasnt able to check his journal until 8pm this evening..which is when he got home..I couldnt check the message myself..it wouldnt let me!
I defo dont have a phone call

If its a joint claim it should be written on your journal too. If they already have your bank details they won't need his, so ask him to clarify with them that they have it right, they're notorious for cocking these things up. When you log on to your account, it should have both of your names. If it doesn't, they've done it wrong and let them know about this. They likely won't check bank accounts, they say they have the power to but I think it's very rare and only if they believe they need to, like if you're half way into a fraud investigation with them already.

Also, as you live together, he won't need proof of his personal rent contribution, they only need a copy of your tenancy so they know how much rent element to give you. When you're on a joint claim, they generally treat you as one amalgamous person unless it's something specific like one of you needs help looking for a job.

ghostmous3 · 05/08/2020 21:50

It has both of our names on the journal.

I will leave a message on the journal tonight and hope they read it tomorrow

Bank details/ card could be just a way to check ID. A Biographical interview/ call is just to check his ID. You should both have an ID check unless you did yours via the online verification.
