Sash windows & Noise Reduction. Busy Road Nightmare

Hi Everyone. Not sure if this is right forum but hopefully someone can help. Our house 100 year old home has horrific upvc sas

windows which I need to replace ASAP with sashs which are imore in keeping with the house's period. Our builder has warned us against sash, we live on a very busy road (how did I not realise this before we bought the house!!!) and he has warned that sash will allow in even more noise than we have at present. Anyone install wood or upvc sashs with sound proof glazing? Did it help to block out the noise? Any recommendations for good Sash window companies? As I type the traffic is flying past and I'm praying that there is a solution out there! Thanks

We had secondary glazing installed, made quite a difference.

Thanks Perching however I'm not sure if secondary glazing is the right option for me and currently the house has ugly 1980s upvc windows which I want to replace. Ideally I want one unit that does the job rather than adding secondary glazing on top of everything.
