Help, hearing noises, is anyone awake?

I’m on my own in the house, and I’ve been woken by noises from the wall behind me that is the other side of my dd”s room, she is at her Dads tonight. It’s a sort of tapping noise, very frequent.
I’m scared to go and look in case someone is in the house, and I’m just lying here as still as I can, I don’t want to call the police as if nobody is here it’s a waste of their time and I’ll feel really stupid, but I’m really scared, what do I do?

Hi, I've had this happen to me and I'm pretty sure it was a mouse in the end but I was scared too as if never heard a sound like it in the past. Have the noises persisted, got louder?

stayathomer · 05/08/2020 03:28

Hi, could be something open, or eg a bird outside (I had a bird tap outside earlier). Is it still going?

lughnasadh · 05/08/2020 03:29

No one is going to break in to tap on a wall.

It'll be mice, or a battery powered toy, or something.

stayathomer · 05/08/2020 03:29

Oh I'd actually go with the mouse thing too

Hi, I’m awake. I get fear lie this sometimes when alone in the house. Do you have a light you can reach to turn on. A light often throws new perspective on the fear in darkness x

Canihaveafairygodmotherpls · 05/08/2020 03:30

I think if it was loud enough to wake you and unlikely to be a noise through a neighbouring wall then just call. Better safe than sorry. I'm here for a handhold x

It’s still going, the opposite side of the room to the window. I can’t even describe it really, it’s like cracking sounds, almost like floorboards are bing walked on that moving the skirting board.
I darent even turn over In bed

Really windy here tonight, could that be moving something?
Like a previous poster said, anyone breaking in def wouldn’t be tapping
Your senses will be heightened, imagination going crazy, turn light on and sit up then re asses.

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 05/08/2020 03:34

Could it be a bird

OhioOhioOhio · 05/08/2020 03:34

Is it near a door or entrance

1stevernamechange · 05/08/2020 03:34

It seems to be less frequent now, I do feel better just being able to tell people, thank you! Am less scared than I was, I might try putting the lamp on. I’ve got my phone ready though!

Brew
1stevernamechange · 05/08/2020 03:36

No, the door and window are the opposite end of the room and it’s a terraced house, all sorts going through my mind such as someone in the attic, or a previous tenant with a key!

I lived in a flat share once and something familiar happened. We called the police and were paralysed with fear. It turned out to be nothing, in fact it was something large that had fallen down unexpectedly in the flat. The police were amazing about it and didn't at all give us a hard time. We felt silly but the fear was very real.

OhioOhioOhio · 05/08/2020 03:36

Put the light on and radio full blast

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 05/08/2020 03:36

Lamp on. Phone in hand. It will be nothing try not to worry. It will start to get light very soon.
Is it an old property? Do you have neighbour's

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 05/08/2020 03:38

Ah just seen its terraced. That's good you have people nearby could it be the neighbour making the noise

Gustavo1 · 05/08/2020 03:39

Your imagination will run riot when some in the dark. How are you online? Can you use your phone as a torch to then turn the light on? Can you play some music? Anything to disturb the silence and restore your peace

Cantchooseaname · 05/08/2020 03:39

There will be an innocent reason behind it. Light will help- how about a torch on your phone if it has one?
I often see/ hear things in the night. My imagination can make them into terrifying things.

1stevernamechange · 05/08/2020 03:41

Thank you all, it does seem to have stopped now, I’m not sure whether I’m brave enough to go and look, although I wish I was as then I could put my mind at rest.
There are neighbours either side of the house.
You have no idea how helpful this has been, I feel like I’ve had people here with me, this is the first time I’ve felt scared living here since January!
If it was a mouse, how would li find out?

Thank you all!

Your def more likely to hear “things “ with neighbours either side, plus it’s reassuring to have them there. Never had a mouse so unsure what to look for, do a quick google search whilst awake. Glad we’ve helped you out x

Cissyandflora · 05/08/2020 03:53

I would have to get up and check but I can understand you being too nervous. I don’t know what noises mice make. But I wake even if my children drop a toy off the bed in another room. Or if my cat moves. Such a light sleeper I feel I’m never off duty! But as you’re alone that’s definitely scary. Hopefully it’s nothing sinister at all. Mice or birds I’ll go with.

1stevernamechange · 05/08/2020 03:54

I’ve braved venturing out of my room, and checked the whole house (phone in hand!) nothing there, feel a bit stupid now, and the noise has stopped!

Thank you again 😊

So relieved for you! Well done for checking. On the occasion I had a suspected mouse the noise was an amazing amount for such a little thing.

1stevernamechange · 05/08/2020 04:08

Thanks! Yes, if it is a mouse, it was so loud! I’m thinking it probably is, as it’s stopped now completely!
