Toys in the living room or their bedroom?

If you don't have a playroom, where do you keep the majority of your kids toys?

DS is three, and while he has a few bits in his room, most are in the living room. We've got the staple Ikea kallax but there are things that don't fit in there. Then there's the play kitchen, huge box of Lego, garage...

I don't remember even being allowed toys downstairs when I was young, and although he has a load of things in the living room, he tends to only play with a handful.

So where do you keep the majority of your plastic tat children's beloved things??

Everywhere. They are everywhere.

grafittiartist · 04/08/2020 21:56

Ha! I was just going to reply everywhere too!
Really- just everywhere!

TitianaTitsling · 04/08/2020 21:57

Everyfuckingwhere.... They mutate and breed if you don't constantly watch them. I truly believe we will be living in a Lego/imaginex house pretty soon!

TitianaTitsling · 04/08/2020 21:58

😆 consensus is everywhere then?

starsinyourpies · 04/08/2020 21:58

We've got a playroom and they're still everywhere Blush

SingingSands · 04/08/2020 22:00

Well they're too old for toys now, but the answer used to be... everywhere Grin

IcyApril · 04/08/2020 22:00

We have a big cupboard under our stairs which is supposed to have most toys in neatly. Reality is it has most toys in a big mess! Additional toys are in the living rooms, kitchen diner, our bedroom...

BoneAppleTeaa · 04/08/2020 22:00

Yep, everywhere. Soul destroying.

Yesterdayforgotten · 04/08/2020 22:01

We have a large basket of toys in the living room corner that can be packed away of an evening. We have a toy kitchen in a space in our dining area which keeps him entertained when I'm cooking and afew around the house. All other toys are in his bedroom. It works well as he has a few things in different parts of the house without being too obvious or messy they sit right in. Since his baby sibling came along though we now have baby toys and equipment as well which does male things abit more chaotic!

eurochick · 04/08/2020 22:01

What age do they grow out of large amounts of plastic tat?

Yesterdayforgotten · 04/08/2020 22:01

make

Redcups64 · 04/08/2020 22:01

Bedroom- the living room belongs to us all, kids and adults so in the evenings I want to sit in it and relax Without toys all around me. They have a small tub in the living room for toys with a blanket and cushion thrown on top to disguise it. They can bring any toys down they like but they go up again before bath time. Their rooms are filled with toys!!

espressoontap · 04/08/2020 22:03

Everywhere. It's a pain in the arse. Have numerous kallax units too.

Yesterdayforgotten · 04/08/2020 22:03

Oh I missed the bathroom they are there too Shock I agree everywhere!

Socialdistancing · 04/08/2020 22:04

We have a playroom and they are still everywhere.
DS is 8 and still loves ALL his toys.
I’ve spent most of today trying to get them into some some semblance of order.
Guns, dinosaurs and lightsabers now live in a box in the living room, Lego, playmobil and ‘little interesting things’ in his bedroom and cars, action figures, trains, animals.... in the playroom.

I live in a very small cottage, DD (2.5) room is up a ladder/trapdoor but she still has a mattress on the floor in the main bedroom downstairs.

She has some toys upstairs but most are in the living room in 5 different storage baskets, plus some craft stuff in a kitchen cupboard. Living room/kitchen is open plan, so during the day there are toys in both rooms, and then just get thrown back into a toy box at night and what feels like hundreds of stickers get peeled off sofa and carpet and binned.

I want my daughter to feel like an equal stakeholder in our home (opposite to how I felt as a child/adolescent) so I'm more than happy with the current set-up.

It helps that she is naturally very tidy (no idea where she gets it from!!!).

Cancel the cheque Grin

Also...what they all said.

allthewaterinthetap · 04/08/2020 22:12

I guess we all have the Kallax and the mutating toys, then :D

Doublechins · 04/08/2020 22:12

When they are under 3 they can have some in the living room but once older they have to keep them in their rooms and either bring them down to play or play up there.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 04/08/2020 22:14

Living room. When they were small I liked them playing where I could see them and it meant bedrooms were for sleeping without having toys to distract them.
Then we moved somewhere with a playroom and it was heaven Grin

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 04/08/2020 22:14

At last dc number 11 has no toys in my front room.

First ever time with a dc - free lounge!

Shelby30 · 04/08/2020 22:15

I agree everywhere 🙈

Some in the loft as we have too many, we alternate. They are in the girls bedrooms, the playroom and the living room. The garage too, garden for the outdoor toys.

I have 8 month old and 3 yr old and they have so many big toys. I am honestly going to ask family not to buy them big toys this Xmas and little ones first birthday not long before. There's no where to put them. Only thing she will be growing out of soon is jumperoo but then the walker and other toys will be out instead.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/08/2020 22:16

Half bedroom half lounge- and an added third landing !

Bishoprick · 04/08/2020 22:17

When my DC were little, we didn't have a playroom. Their toys were, yes, everywhere. Not in their bedrooms, though. I played with them downstairs, so I could keep an eye on them all. Bedrooms were for sleeping in.

Tacobellend · 04/08/2020 22:19

Downstairs but as soon as they started full time school in there bedrooms. We do have a craft /games cupboard downstairs though .
