Just jaw dropping
The sheer force
Horrific
When you see the footage for the second time the horror at what you know is coming
Those poor people

Horrendous.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 04/08/2020 19:39

Whatever exploded was huge
One clip shows what looks like a mushroom cloud
Scary in such a volatile situation

Just awful. There are a number of videos doing the rounds on Facebook (which are so horrific they will surely be deleted soon) showing body parts lying in the streets. I dread to think how many lives are lost.

BringMeTea · 04/08/2020 19:47

Dreadful. Poor people.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 04/08/2020 19:50

I've only seen the video clips on twitter taken from a distance
The surge of explosive power can actually be seen
I've never seen anything like it

It looks like special effects from a film! Those poor people Sad

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/08/2020 19:52

Bloody hell!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 04/08/2020 19:53

Fireworks wasn’t it? You can see them all going off before the second explosion.

I avoid & dislike these as I wouldn't want this for my loved ones.

Fireworks? I have never seen fireworks like that. Awful.
IndecentFeminist · 04/08/2020 19:57

It's incredible

FluffyKittensinabasket · 04/08/2020 20:09

Someone in a work WhatsApp group said it’s a nuclear bomb and the military is being sent to the ME. Probably not true.

TheQueef · 04/08/2020 20:21

Fucks sake that's huge.
That shockwave.
Surely nobody stores that amount of fireworks so close to a political hotspot?

TheQueef · 04/08/2020 20:21

Apart from Guy Fawkes obvs.

ThunderSkies · 04/08/2020 20:24

I’ve just come on to ask about this. I saw what looked like the explosion, then it happened. I whole block was taken out, then the shockwave across the city. Shocking.

OublietteBravo · 04/08/2020 20:26

My friend lives there. She’s says she’s OK (aside from what she describes as “a few scratches”). But she sounds very shaken up. As you’d expect.

TeddyGizmo · 04/08/2020 20:28

I live in Cyprus and we heard and felt it here. Have a couple of friends there, they are safe but very shocked.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 04/08/2020 20:29

That cannot surely just have been fireworks

Some security person says it happened in an area where explosives were stored.

From the video there is a building on fire before the big explosion. So maybe just an accident? Building catches fire, there’s some sort of military munitions store and it goes up like a bomb?

LoeliaPonsonby · 04/08/2020 20:32

That’s not fireworks. It’s horrific!

FlibbertyGiblets · 04/08/2020 20:33

I honestly thought it was a nuke. Those poor people. The films I have seen were from a distance, thank you for the warning about the on-street footage, shall avoid.

ballsdeep · 04/08/2020 20:34

Apparently (on twitter) they are saying it was hidden explosives. They just have had the whole world's worth of fireworks in there if it was that!
Those poor poor people. The hospital's ITU 's are already full of Corona virus patients and there's no room

LoeliaPonsonby · 04/08/2020 20:38

I must admit my first thought was nuclear too. You would need such an enormous amount of conventional explosives to make a blast that size, and that amount of conventional explosives would not be in a port in the middle of a city legally. It doesn’t rule out conventional explosives, but it would be a VAST amount.

FinnyStory · 04/08/2020 20:38

They seem to be saying it was an accident at an explosives depot?

I'm not claiming to be any sort of expert but I thought things were calm in Beirut now. When I was young "it's like Beirut" would be used to describe any riotous situation but not for years now.

Bmidreams · 04/08/2020 20:41

I've watched it a lot. It's a proper mushroom. What an earth has gone up into the sky?
