Do these $100 bills look real?

Sent by a relative for a now cancelled trip, was going to change them up and the post office but they feel super thin and have the same serial number so I feel like they’re fake, don’t particularly want to be accused of forgery in the local PO and I know no one can actually tell me for sure but am I missing something and they’re obvious fakes?!

Pic with $20 bill we had which feels a lot thicker

If they have the same serial number then they will be fake

Gabrielknight · 04/08/2020 09:53

They don't look quite right....

brastrapbroken · 04/08/2020 09:55

They look fake. Flimsy, wrong colour (just a quick google) and as pointed out above, they have the same serial number.

No, they don’t look right and the serial number matches... they’re fake.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 04/08/2020 09:57

I thought so!

Do I tell the relative or just leave it?!

Thank you!

Tell them! That’s weird that they didn’t realise. Do they use American dollars often enough?

otterbaby · 04/08/2020 10:04

They also look a bit too 'zoomed in'. I would mention it to them so they can go back to where they got them from and ask what happened!

Will0wtree · 04/08/2020 10:05

Yes fake, here's a site with all the ways you can tell, but the same serial number is in instant giveaway.

"If you receive multiple suspicious bills, see if the serial numbers are the same on across all bills. Counterfeiters often neglect to change serial numbers on fake bills. If they are the same, then they are counterfeit notes"
www.wikihow.com/Detect-Counterfeit-US-Money

You'd better tell the relative. If they've got more of the same then they'll get in trouble if they try to use them. (Also, maybe someone's paying them in fake notes, so they would want to know.)

The 100s definitely look fake to me. Does the 100 in the bottom right corner change colour if you wriggle it about? The 20 looks okay though!

Same serial number = fake
