Building work noise wwyd

I am at the end of my tether with next door’s builders. They have been working for the last 6 months on building an extension/ new front and back patio.

They have spent the last 3 weeks using a VERY loud tool to remove the concrete at the front of the house. It is unbearably loud and shakes our house. They block our drive with their van every morning. So far we have been very tolerant and said nothing.

This morning they have started at 7.05am. I don’t want to be an arsehole but it is so loud we can’t have our windows open even though it so hot and we also have 3 month old babies so sleep is precious! I know noisy construction work should be between 8-6am but I don’t want to be the annoying neighbour who complains....or should I?

It's ok to complain and justified. In my experience the issue is that the builders don't often care because they don't have to live next door to you. And the homeowners want to keep the builders sweet. And can blame the builders.

Also in your case it might just mean the horrible noise goes on for more days?

OP,
Why have you put up with this.
Blocking you in?
Not on.

They should be sticking to the hours it's allowed.

They are doing this because you have allowed it.

I'd go and ask them when this part of the work will finish and then decide whether to complain to the owner. They are going to have to do it and bu doing longer hours it may get it over and done with . I sympathise as my neighbour has been doing a DIY extension for 2 years!

Ditto OP. Been up 3 months working 8-5 including occasional weekends. We asked the workmen over 4 weeks ago and was told it would be finished the following week. Nope. The dirt flying in our windows is thick black stuff too (too hot to not have airflow whilst WFH). There's not much we can do as the building is in bed sits and occupied by tenants.

Right, when I go out this morning I will speak to them. I’m not normally a pushover (honestly!) but didn’t want to be the new neighbours who complain.

I think you're right to feel that way OP. You dont want years of hostility for the sake of some short term noise , but equally you need to balance that against living with it here and now.
