School Trips?

DD (10) missed out on the Y5 residential in June, which has been rescheduled for October. They have 4 nights away at an outward bound type place, cost around £400. Most of the year group are going, it’s a fairly small school and is a big thing that gets talked up for years beforehand. I just can’t see it going ahead but given it’s not a huge amount of time after they go back to school and we’ve had no other info, I wondered what others thought about the chances?

My year 6 DD had her year 6 trip cancelled and the Yr 7 trip has also been cancelled and it was scheduled for after October.

The current Gov advice to schools is 'no residential trips'.

ThreeLeggedCat · 03/08/2020 22:44

My DD’s (secondary) school has cancelled all trips except essential Geography field trips (presume exam years) for the foreseeable future.

Doyoumind · 03/08/2020 22:45

I don't think it will happen as soon as that. I can't see anything happening until at least the spring now in terms of residentials.

Mothermorph · 03/08/2020 22:47

GolfForBrains · 03/08/2020 22:49

Why did she miss out?

Have you been following the news at all?

FloweringFlowers · 03/08/2020 22:51

Dd has a school trip planned in February, I was thinking today I can’t see it going ahead, due to make payment in September. Just lost £350 on a scout trip that hasn’t gone ahead... not keen to lose more.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 03/08/2020 22:56

Our secondary school have cancelled all trips for next academic year. That is day trips out as well as foreign trips to the Battlefields, the Spanish trip, ski trip and New York trip.

howfarwevecome · 03/08/2020 22:59

All of my children lost their Summer Term school trips. Pretty shit.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/08/2020 23:01

Sorry I thought op meant her child had missed out for some reason. Rather than ALL children had missed out.

hippohector · 04/08/2020 00:14

Our yr5 residential trip which was supposed to happen in April was postponed until October. The school has now cancelled it completely to comply with govt guidelines. Full refunds given.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2020 00:21

Under the Ofqual consultation document it looks like GCSE Geography field trips have been removed off the paper for 2021.

AlwaysLatte · 04/08/2020 00:23

They're very ambitious, thinking about October. I'd have thought it was quite unlikely I'm afraid. 🙁

painandmorepain · 04/08/2020 00:26

Is it definite that geography field trips have been removed from next years GCSE or is it still at proposal stage?

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2020 00:42

Think that is what it is saying @painandmorepain

Dc school has cancelled all trips for the foreseeable, for all years. They initially cancelled the Yr 5 residential (was supposed to be June) and rearranged it for November but sent a letter out on the last day of term that it was cancelled and they would refund us the money.

AuditAngel · 05/08/2020 12:50

At the moment Yr 8 (going into Yr 9) DD’s history trip to Belgium was postponed in March, currently rescheduled for next March
