Was driving by a small forest area and I had to slow down to avoid running over two very small animals. They were red and long and skinny. Almost like a fluffy pipe cleaner on legs! Any ideas what they could be?

I thank you !

Vicbarbarkley · 03/08/2020 22:04

Talking of coats, I saw a mink by the river in Durham on Friday😁

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 03/08/2020 22:10

A friend lives in Durham. Last year a dead mink was in the river in her garden..
*that actually wrote out as dead monk!!
Oops!!

HeronLanyon · 03/08/2020 22:10

They are seriously beautiful. I was once chased off a beach by a really vicious mink. Kept running right at us. Think it must have had young nearby. Felt so stupid clambering across boulders because of a small mammal.

Coat half on . . .

Vicbarbarkley · 03/08/2020 22:12

They are absolutely gorgeous, but a bit of a menace😐

Oooh I loves a weasel. Or a stoat.

midnightstar66 · 03/08/2020 22:16

I spent the day on the beach in Scotland today - at some points I was in a vest and others i was so cold I was wearing 2 coats. Sun burn and frost bite in one day 😆. OP probably a weasel!

justanotherneighinparadise · 03/08/2020 22:17

I remember when I first saw a weasel running across the road I thought I’d seen an alien! They ran with an arched back so they looked even crazier.

UncleShady · 03/08/2020 22:20

And what does the pine marten say?

HeronLanyon · 03/08/2020 22:22

To the bishop ?

PickAChew · 03/08/2020 22:23

I had no idea we had mink in Durham. We do sometimes get a weasel in our garden. Glossy, bouncy wriggly thing. Probably looking for all the field mice and bank voles that we get but still rather cute.

GoshHashana · 03/08/2020 22:25

Weezle.

InTheWings · 03/08/2020 22:29

A stoat can be easil..
..y told from a weasel
By the simple fact
that his tail is blacked
and his figure
is slightly the bigger.

My place on Springwatch is secured.

Vicbarbarkley · 03/08/2020 22:30

@PickAChew they seem to be re-establishing themselves quite well at the moment😊

Bairnsmum05 · 03/08/2020 22:31

Where in Scotland? Red squirrels are only present in a few areas.

InTheWings · 03/08/2020 22:32

Polecat?

InTheWings · 03/08/2020 22:33

Baby Oompa Loompas.

HeronLanyon · 03/08/2020 22:34

inthewings you should be centre stage ! I particularly admired that ‘y’ business in line 2. Grin

streamlinedcaverns · 03/08/2020 22:38

We used to see pine martens from our old house, we should not have moved!

Shannith · 03/08/2020 22:41
