Can you defrost gateau in fridge?

I’ve bought a frozen Black Forest gateau. On box it says defrost at room temperature. We are going out and won’t be home all day. Would quite like gateau for desert tonight. Will it be alright if I just chuck it in the fridge to defrost?

You can defrost in the fridge it just takes longer so you might need to get it out when you get home to finish the job.

Don't they normally day something like 2 hours at room temp, or 8 hours in the fridge? Leave it in the fridge all day, get it out as soon as you get home.
