Public sector recruitment freeze?

1 reply

One of my best friends (not a Mumsnetter!) is on an 18 month fixed term contract for the council that is due to come to an end early next year.

Naturally, like most people, she's worried about her job...she was hoping for an extension to the contract or to be made permanent.

Do you think they'll be a recruitment freeze in place by then?

Nobody will know the answer to that question.

The problem with an extension is that after 2 years service, she will have gone right to a redundancy payment, so some company's will ensure that contracts don't go over 2 years.

My suggestion would be that your friend;
Looks for other work - easier now that she has a foot in the door.

Build good working relationships with other Depts, in case any vacancies come up, there.

Undertake any training she can at work, fill in any knowledge or skills gaps.
