Dd says being touched feels like sharp stabs

Dd aged 14 has always been sensitive to touch , hates wearing socks or being tapped on the arm. She's become more sensitive to it in the last few years to the point that if I touch her arm, she starts sort of wiping it down and gets irritated saying she hates it as it feels like a sharp stabbing feeling and she can feel it for hours. I guess this is some sort of sensory processing disorder. Has anyone had any success with OT or something else? Should I just ignore as another teen thing that will pass?

I've been reading more and it looks as though is may be 'tactile defensiveness'. I have suspected she may be HFA for some time and it seems to be linked to that. Anyone got any experience of how to manage the sensitivity she has to touch ?She hates the seam on socks and noisey places as well as the quite dramatic reaction to light touch or being tapped on the arm.

She has always struggled socially and since the schools closed in March she hasn't seen anyone from school, instead choosing to only speak to a group of friends she has on an online game. I think this maybe because the social stuff is easier for her to manage online.

I’m dyspraxic and I find it painful to be touched. Especially tickling. That feels like being jabbed with knitting needles.

Ok, I'll have a read about that. Thank you.

Have you found anything that helps or do you just live with it?
