My favourite books and the ones that have stuck with me are not necessarily the same, but those which fit both categories include:

The Handmaid's Tale (Margaret Atwood)
Life after Life (Kate Atkinson)
Atonement (Ian McEwan)
The Go-between (L. P. Hartley)
Station Eleven (Emily St John Mandel)

Not necessarily my favourites but have stayed with me:

Nineteen Eighty-Four (George Orwell)
The Hole (originally called After the Hole, I think by Guy Burt)
The man who mistook his wife for a hat (Oliver Sacks)
His Dark Materials trilogy (Philip Pullman)
Notes from a small island (Bill Bryson)
The little white car (Danuta de Rhodes)
Grasshopper Jungle (Andrew Smith)
The Wonder (Emma Donoghue)

Those that have stayed with me for perhaps not the right reasons:

The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown)
Labyrinth (Kate Mosse)
The Slap (Christos Tsiolkas)
