Parking - Across my drive

Jonesn1 · 01/08/2020 20:12

This black Merc does this constantly!! Everyone else that parks there at least makes an effort to park up on cerb. Those neighbors has 5 cars due to 2 adult children.
Shall I leave a note? If there's a 2nd car on my drive he makes it really difficult.

That's exactly like my drive sometimes @littlebobbybadger . I'd love to live where the op lives it would make coming and going a dream .

EasilyDelighted · 02/08/2020 09:12

It's when there is one opposite plus one either side that we get problems, luckily it doesn't happen too often. Yes if we have reversed on we can drive out forwards with a bit of wiggling but when we return we can't reverse back on again but you know if you go on forwards you won't be able to get out again.

okiedokieme · 02/08/2020 09:25

It's not across your drive, it's opposite and why is that a problem? I do this regularly, you have little choice in cities

FartingInTheFence · 02/08/2020 10:36

@IloveJudgeJudy

I can't see the problem? You should be able to get out. I'd suggest you reverse onto your driveway and drive out forwards if you find it difficult.
If you seriously cannot reverse your crappy lil Corsa out of that space then you should hand in your licence.

Try moving those bins too if you need more space.

That Merc is parked fine, and ironically, next to a lamp-post so that its clearly visible at night in case idiot drivers like you cant get back onto your drive.

Words fail me. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

FakeCutlassesAreAGatewayWeapon · 02/08/2020 10:56

Looks like the best option to me. If the car was further forward they would be more of a hazard due to the corner. I'd just reverse towards that corner. Even with two cars the most inconvenience would be maybe having to go forward then back a couple of times. Still much easier than reverse parking.

There are cars parked like this 90% of the time on my road and it's genuinely not an issue. The only issues arise if there are also cars on the drive side of the road making a slalom. Parking on the side of the road with no drives starting a line from a sensible distance from the corner and under a lamppost so easily seen seems very sensible to me.

Flynn999 · 02/08/2020 11:04

So you think they should park on the kerb and block the path for those in pushchairs/wheelchairs etc so you can get in and out your drive easily?

If you can’t get out your drive you shouldn’t be driving. YABU. Looks like your drive is plenty wide enough and the road has enough space to reserve onto.

ExclamationPerfume · 02/08/2020 11:08

They are not parked across your drive at all. You should always reverse in to the drive so then you can pull out easily.

Scentsandsensible · 02/08/2020 11:14

Going against the grain - that would irritate me as well. There’s plenty of space for them to park that isn’t right behind your drive.

Might well be opposite someone elses drive.

So the "problem", in the OP's eyes, hasnt gone away. Fact remains, the car is perfectly legally parked.

Not the Merc owners fault if the crap Corsa driver cant navigate out of that space. Its huge! 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🙄😲🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Looneytune253 · 02/08/2020 12:03

There's plenty of space there I don't know why you're complaining. You defo shouldn't be expecting them to park on the kerb tho that is kinda bad for pedestrians. Better parking on the road.

Scentsandsensible · 02/08/2020 12:04

@FartingInTheFence from that photo it appears that there is a patch of grass to the right, and a graveled area to the left - so no need to part right opposite the dropped kerb.

SciFiScream · 02/08/2020 12:05

You have loads of space to get out of your drive. I often have cars parked much closer than that.

You've got that massive pavement and half the road to get out in.

You do know you can reverse and turn at the same time? You don't have to reverse in a straight line?

I always reverse in now. I think it's in the Highway Code and I realised better when we have snow. (Been a while with snow, but still have being reversing in for 10 years now)

Floralnomad · 02/08/2020 12:05

If you seriously have trouble reversing off of a drive because someone is parked opposite then you need driving lessons .

Yip, this Complete non issue

Irrelevant.

For all we know, there may have been a line of cars parked there and the Merc is the only one now left.

Still, absolutely no reason why OP cannot reverse out of that space. A point you completely fail to address. 🙄

PhilCornwall1 · 02/08/2020 12:39

If you can't get out of your drive with that behind you, you shouldn't have a full license.

Looks like you are driving a Corsa (might not be), so not exactly a truck. There is plenty of room.

BTW: weed your gravel!! Grin

Scentsandsensible · 02/08/2020 12:44

@FartingInTheFence unless I’ve missed it - OP didn’t mention she can’t get out of the drive - just that it’s annoyijg.
While I wouldn’t leave a note etc, it would irritate me too. Yes they have every right to park there, no the op can’t do anything but honestly if the street is empty it would be annoying. Park opposite your own bloody drive.

lyralalala · 02/08/2020 12:54

If they are the only one not parked on the kerb then they are the only one in the street with consideration for people using the pavements. Pavements are for people walking, and using prams and wheelchairs. Not for cars or to help poor drivers.

Reverse onto the drive (as you should be doing anyway) and drive off. There's plenty of space.

The whining OP says:

If there's a 2nd car on my drive he makes it really difficult

The OP doesnt explain the difficulty, but its pretty evident the OP means reversing off their drive.

As for where the Merc is parked - it may well be they are visiting that very house on their left hand side, so why would they park anywhere else even if the Universe is empty Hmm ?

OP needs to get a grip. And driving lessons on how to park/reverse/move a car 🤦‍♂️

SoupDragon · 02/08/2020 13:03

The whining OP says:

If there's a 2nd car on my drive he makes it really difficult

Do you understand the difference between "difficult" and "can't"?

FartingInTheFence · 02/08/2020 13:06

Do you understand the difference between "difficult" and "can't"?

And this is the Merc drivers problem how exactly?

It remains the OP's problem. Maybe thats something you dont understand.
@FartingInTheFence from that photo it appears that there is a patch of grass to the right, and a graveled area to the left - so no need to part right opposite the dropped kerb.
Maybe when the car parked, the other spots were full?

Scentsandsensible · 02/08/2020 13:29

@vanillandhoney if that’s the case I take it back - but honestly if the street is empty and that’s where they choose to park, it would bug me.
I’m not saying that they can’t park there, or that OP owns the road - but it’s one of the things that would niggle. Nothing I’d do about it but it would annoy me. Why not park a few meters to the left or right (assuming by photo that it wouldn’t then be opposite someone else’s drive).

Permanantlypuzzled · 02/08/2020 13:51

PP’s asking the OP why not reverse onto her drive.
FFS she has enough trouble reversing onto a road.
You really expect her to get her car onto a drive?
Backwards?

copernicium · 02/08/2020 14:01

This is my street currently, and most days. I'm orange, in my drive.
