Parking - Across my drive

Jonesn1 · 01/08/2020 20:12

This black Merc does this constantly!! Everyone else that parks there at least makes an effort to park up on cerb. Those neighbors has 5 cars due to 2 adult children.
Shall I leave a note? If there's a 2nd car on my drive he makes it really difficult.

well obviously you might struggle getting a double decker bus out of there, but a car....?

ThousandsAreSailing · 01/08/2020 20:41

They shouldn't be on the kerb. The pavement is for people. You are not blocked in

forrestgreen · 01/08/2020 20:43

They're not parked over your drive. You wouldn't reverse straight back anyway, so you'll miss it as you turn.
Reverse onto your drive.

mollibu · 01/08/2020 20:43

He isn't parked across your drive, OP!! As an above poster said you have more space to reverse out of than a standard supermarket space.

Total non issue. Please DO NOT put a note on his car. You'll make yourself look silly and give them a good old laugh.

It doesn’t look like they’re parked on the kerb.
crimsonlake · 01/08/2020 20:45

Talk about an exaggeration...I should think most homes in the UK have streets where there are cars parked on the opposite side of the road like this. I bet most of them do not have the pleasure of being on such a wide road either.

Welshmiss38 · 01/08/2020 20:46

Thanks all 🙈It’s not that I can’t get out, guess it’s just anyone near the car stresses me out after having two cars written off outside my old house. 😔Still paying for it a year later and my insurance won’t be dropping anytime soon.

dementedpixie · 01/08/2020 20:46

They arent parked on the kerb but OP wants them to be

gnomeisland · 01/08/2020 20:47

They are not parked on the pavement.

But the OP reckons they should park there to make it easier for them to reverse out of their drive.

Ahh right I see what you mean.
PawPawNoodle · 01/08/2020 20:50

How is it cheeky of them to park there? To me it looks like they are parking a safe distance away from the corner while also keeping the car in eyeshot, rather than trying to obstruct you.

You on the other hand have taken up the entire pavement with your bins.

Redglitter · 01/08/2020 20:50

There's a ton of room there hes not by any stretch of the imagination parked across your drive. You cant possibly put a note on the car ffs. How do you cope reversing out of car park spaces because there looks to be more room there than you get in an average car park

Justgivemesomepeace · 01/08/2020 20:51

Good grief. There's tons of room. Move the bins. You would be really petty to put a note on their car for that. No they are not cheeky. They are perfectly legally parked and not causing a problem at all. If the road was narrower and you would actually struggle to get off your drive then yes, you may have a point. But that isn't the case.

Thislittlelady · 01/08/2020 20:53

Getting to the stage where you can’t park anywhere cos it’s someone’s drive. Well, I do need to park. And that person isn’t blocking your drive. And I certainly don’t condone parking on the kerb how selfish is that!! If you can’t get your car out of there you shouldn’t be driving.

Landlubber2019 · 01/08/2020 20:54

Yes please leave a note..... Would love to see their reply GrinGrinGrin

Meandyouandyouandme · 01/08/2020 20:55

I parked like this recently and got a shitty note on my car. I was opposite someone’s drive and in a row of two other cars, so thought it was a reasonable place to park, plus the car on the drive had been reversed in, so they could have easily got off the drive.
I’ve lived in a house where people regularly parked opposite my drive plus two cars either side of the drive, now that is challenging to get out of!

littlebobbybadger · 01/08/2020 20:56

I tell you what's more annoying... people parking like this on my road. Makes trying to get my car off the drive (yellow) almost impossible.
But not totally impossible. I have to do an 8 point turn to get out.

DotForShort · 01/08/2020 20:56

But you have loads of room. The neighbour hasn’t done anything wrong. Confused

Is this thread a reverse? Has someone left a passive aggressive note about your parking?

abitoflight · 01/08/2020 21:06

@littlebobbybadger
I have exactly the same. My road used as a rat run so can be v hard to reverse into drive in rush hour so if I'm using the car the next day before 9 I have to go out and reverse it in when road quieter

littlebobbybadger · 01/08/2020 21:08

Same here @abitoflight
Total rat run, on a blind bend! And people park like that!

Chloemol · 01/08/2020 21:13

They are legally parked on the road, and you can get out of your drive. Happens on my estate all the time and there simply is no issue

Chloemol · 01/08/2020 21:15

Added to which if they park up on the kerb then that’s also blocking the footpath, which then means pushchair and wheelchair users have difficulty. And you are not supposed to park on footpaths

EveningNibble · 01/08/2020 21:22

They aren’t parked across your driveway, they are parked OPPOSITE your driveway.

They aren’t being cheeky, it’s perfectly logical and legal.

If you are struggling to get out of your driveway I’d suggest you go get some refresher driving lessons.

Coldspringharbour · 01/08/2020 21:23

If you can’t reverse out with all that space you shouldn’t be driving. Why are you not reversing into your drive. They are not parked across your driveway

VainAbigail · 01/08/2020 21:27

Bloody hell. They’re not being “cheeky” and they’re not doing anything wrong. Mountain/mole hill springs to mind.

PP suggestions of reverse parking on your drive is your solution here.

Chill out.
