Running a business from home

One of our neighbours has recently started a business from home. He is a mobile mechanic but he seems to be doing a lot from home and not at the car owners houses at all. He hasn't got his own garage so he does all his repairs in the road. There are various cars jacked up at any one time.

He currently has 6 cars parked in our already crowded street plus the 2 from his household. It's all on street parking and it's usually hard enough to get a space now it's even worse.

The cars seem to come in the day when the street is fairly empty so by the evening nobody can park.

Are there any rules about running a business from home?

It may depend on your local council, perhaps give them a call and ask for some advice.

I'm not sure you'd have a leg to stand on with regards to cars that are insured and MOT'd and parked legally on the road not causing any obstruction - but jacked up for quite a length of time while clearly being worked on by a mechanic might be a different matter.

No advice but sympathies. My neighbor used to do this and it wound me up to no end. He moved out thankfully

Thank you. I think I will ring the council. He isn't the type you could have a word with. They only moved in last year so sadly I don't think they will be going anywhere soon. I don't understand why they wouldn't have bought somewhere with a garage if that was their plan.
