Did anyone else go through a waistcoat with tshirt phase in the early noughties?

Just dug out a particularly unflattering photo of myself in bootcuts, a tshirt and a tweed waistcoat.

Who told me this was fashionable?! Hmm

Wore mine with leggings, big socks and hiking bootsGrin

I had a black pleather waistcoat....they were all the rage. Often wore with a pop stud body top. Leggings and platform lace up hiking boots.

My waste coat was cream jackard with diamond coloured patterns, similar to what you find as pub upholstery. Mine may have been worn with contrasting mustard/berry/dark green turtle neck.

I think my waistcoats came before my discovery of leggings.

I had a paisley waistcoat but I think that was late eighties.

RowboatsinDisguise · 31/07/2020 21:15

Red velvet waistcoat, often worn with a stripy top. Kind of a sexy pirate vibe.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 31/07/2020 21:16

Mid 90's pinstripe waistcoat.
I also had a lovely tan suede one.

Craftycorvid · 31/07/2020 21:19

Still wear ‘em. Grin. I’ll get me (waist) coat.

HoHoHolyCow · 31/07/2020 21:29

I had a purple one! Embroidered, with random bits of mirror sewn on. I wore it over one of those reaaallly tight tops that fastened under your crotch with poppers, jeans and docs. Or leggings. My docs had rainbow laces 🌈

isabellerossignol · 31/07/2020 21:32

I did, but I think it might have been late 80s. Levi's 501s, chunky brogues, white t shirt and a waistcoat. Deadly.

Bargebill19 · 31/07/2020 21:36

Yes! With an over large white mens style shirt and jeans. Waistcoat had to be from the charity shop.

Bargebill19 · 31/07/2020 21:36

Mid to late 80s

rslsys · 31/07/2020 21:38

Pictures, or it didn't happen!

CeliaCanth · 31/07/2020 21:39

Oh, yes. Mine was rust red suede which I wore with a white “body” (those things with crotch poppers) and black jeans. Actually, I think I still have it somewhere!

TinkersRucksack · 31/07/2020 21:40

Yes, with a white shirt, cut off jeans, black tights and Doc Martens. Stylinnnnnnnnn

itsgettingweird · 31/07/2020 21:44

Yeah to also having leggings and slouch socks!

Swiftly followed by the mid to later noughties trend of jeans and checked shirt!

magicstar1 · 31/07/2020 21:47

Late eighties here too...except mine had belonged to my grandad and was vintage.
I still wear one now but it’s a leather biker one

felineflutter · 31/07/2020 21:48

Yes!
Paisley purple
Sequined/tapestry type
Grandad style

Worn with t-shirt or vest top, short tight skirt , hiking socks and dock martins or patchwork tight jeans. Grin

Rockbird · 31/07/2020 21:48

Yep. One waistcoat belonged to my dad, I don't think he ever knew that I borrowed it!

CodenameVillanelle · 31/07/2020 21:49

It was around 1994 for me. Embroidered waistcoat with oversized save the whales t shirt and bright patterned leggings

felineflutter · 31/07/2020 21:49

The waistcoat needed to smell of old men.

GlindaTheGood · 31/07/2020 21:50

I think I went from my waistcoat and bootcuts to leggings, ankle socks over the top of brown Chelsea boots and navy pea coats.

I thought Sarah in Labyrinth was the ultimate in chic.... (more mid/late eighties though)

Late eighties for me. Ah, they were the days...

waltzingparrot · 31/07/2020 21:53

I was a bit earlier, mid 1980s. Everyone was wearing navy plumbers dungarees - £3 a pair from the Army & Navy store. We must have looked like a load of Super Marios coming up the street.
