WhatsApp groups for work

I work for one of the emergency services but am not front line staff.
We have two WhatsApp groups. One is to be used in case of an emergency that requires our response.
The other is day to day stuff about meeting times and has x got y etc. However, sometimes it just veers off into nonsense or slightly subtle digs at people. We also have MS Teams and emails and a meeting every morning. The whatsapp messages start early and sometimes go on til late :/ and yes i have muted but still check it to see if I've missed anything.
Feel like I cant escape. My phone broke and I've got my new one. Am thinking of re-joining the emergency one and not the other? I just need some work/life balance back whilst working from home. Like when did these groups become an accepted thing?

Goodness me hell no! Unless it's a phone provided by work that you can turn off - they don't pay your bill - so mute the chats or refuse to be in it! Absolutely idiotic, what happened to work life balance?
