Am I the only person who doesn’t know what ‘naturist’ means

I booked a campsite ages ago for a few days away with friends at the end of August. I sent friends the confirmation email below and they all found it absolutely hysterical as I’d booked a naturist campsite. I’ve cancelled it now, obviously.

I thought it meant it was a naturey place - there was lots in the description of it being secluded and in the middle of the countryside. Also now there’s no nice campsites left.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who didn’t know this. I know what a nudist is, I’d just never heard the word naturist used instead.

AfterSchoolWorry · 30/07/2020 23:42

HirplesWithHaggis · 30/07/2020 23:44

Aquamarine1029 · 30/07/2020 23:46

Sorry, I've always known this.

You will never live this down, btw.

HandsomeMaid · 30/07/2020 23:48

Crap. I thought that might be the case. They’re going to take the piss out of me forever.

You clearly didn't grow up in the 70s watching Carry On films. 😂.

That's hysterical.

JizzPigeon22 · 30/07/2020 23:51

How can you not know that? Even kids know that!

Elle1234 · 30/07/2020 23:53

There's a naturist session at our local pool where DH is a lifeguard, we definitely know what it means 😂

BobbieDraper · 30/07/2020 23:55

How? Just how?

I'm sorry, if I were your friend then I would have a giggle about this every time you bring up holidays in the future.

Tinty · 30/07/2020 23:56

Darn it would have been even funnier if you’d found out when you got there. Shame your friends knew what it was. 😁

HandsomeMaid · 31/07/2020 00:16

I don’t know how I didn’t know it. I was hoping it was some archaic term that had passed me by. Evidently not Blush

A colleague told me his daughter was a naturalist and I didn't really know how to respond and I went all awkward. It was only later I realised it wasn't the same as a naturist 🤣

TheNestedIf · 31/07/2020 00:24

Hahahahahahahaha ^^ hahahahahahahahahahaha!

Sorry.

jessstan2 · 31/07/2020 00:44

An ex colleague of mine realised just in the nick of time that the accommodation she'd booked, in a wing of a really really friendly couple's house, came with the expectation of a bit of wife swapping. How we laughed.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 31/07/2020 00:53

🤣🤣🤣 yep just you

5363738383j · 31/07/2020 00:57

Yes I agreed to make a naturist film once as a teenager. When the light dawned, I actually said, "Gosh, I thought it was foxes and badgers! I'm sorry but I'll have to go home."

5363738383j · 31/07/2020 00:58

I'll have to name change now...

Clumsyduck · 31/07/2020 01:06

I get muddled up with naturalist and naturist Blush

SmileTolerantly · 31/07/2020 01:14

Of course it’s normally very bad form to laugh at someone who admits to ignorance. In this case however Grin

Just half woken my 18 month old laughing aloud at this Grin
