My washing, a confession

I live in rural Scotland and it's rained for about a million days.

Tomorrow is wall to wall sunshine and 27 degrees.

I have just washed all the bedding, protectors, towels, and any dirty clothes and hung them on the line at 8pm.

I have a meeting an hour away at 9am.

By the time I get back they will be dry and the next load of throws, dressing gowns and other big stuff can go out.

I feel like a sneaky genius but I told my mum and she said, like I've read on here, my washing will get darked on and spiders in it.

I don't care. I will have lovely line dry washing for the first time in weeks!

Mines in on delay to be washed overnight and go out first thing... I’m scared of the spider willies and it being darked on. You’re braver than me OP! Grin

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 30/07/2020 22:10

I had the washing machine on early doors today and washed our sofa covers, throws and three loads of clothes so I could get some good drying in. Bedclothes tomorrow.

My granny would be so proud of me making good use of the fine weather 😆

Mollypolly2610 · 30/07/2020 22:11

BUT I’m in rural Scotland and the forecast is warm but with scattered showers!!

Almostfifty · 30/07/2020 22:11

I have a wash ready to go out first thing and the bedding will be straight after it, followed by a dark and light wash. The bedding will be back on the bed by the afternoon so I can sit in the sun and chill for the first time in weeks.

I do love living in the west of Scotland, but I really don't like the weather...

icedaisy · 31/07/2020 12:56

@TwentyViginti I couldn't find them!! But apparently it's to hot for goats today. So they were in a stable.

Washing all dry and next loads now out. Following that advice and looking for random things to wash.

Rain again tomorrow.

I've been merrily washing all 10yo dd2's cuddlies today since early morning. They're all swinging by their ears and tails on my short line (long one fell down or there'd be more out).

I'm off up for her unicorn blanket next...and see what else I can wash with it Grin

Greyblueeyes · 31/07/2020 13:35

Ha! I love the image of all of the teddies drying on the line. How sweet Grin

lucysmam · 31/07/2020 13:39

@Greyblueeyes there's still a whole small basket that could do with a run through but it's taken forever to convince dd to let me wash these ones & I'm not sure the line would cope

@lucysmam amazing. That's next on list. Never even thought about teddies.

It's super super windy here. Not sitting in sun weather, would blow away. But sure is washing day.

@icedaisy I'm hoping tomorrow will be nice enough for me to carry on with them so the Build-a-Bears could go through & her curtains.

I'm never normally so keen but the washing basket is rather empty atm so may as well make the most & wash stuff that's lurking & needs done :)

thegcatsmother · 31/07/2020 14:42

I left ds's washing out last night to be darked on. He tells me that at 24 he isn't scared of spiders in his T shirts.

Skyliner001 · 31/07/2020 14:46

Love a good drying day.

Mashingthecompost · 31/07/2020 14:48

Took me a while there to realise 'darked on' wasn't Scots or slang for birds crapping on it.

Do you not get bitten by clothes critters? I had to stop hanging stuff outside because things (chiggers I think) get into the clothes and I get bitten to bits... doesn't happen when I'm outside, just when washing is. It's like they march along the line and settle into the fabric.

Coronacurls · 31/07/2020 14:53

I have found my people! I love doing laundry and hanging it out - as soon as I saw the forecast for today (it's 32 here) I planned what I would wash!

Curtains and cushions on the line 😊

RowboatsinDisguise · 31/07/2020 14:53

Our washing machine has been out of action for weeks and weeks due to a part not being available! It was fixed yesterday and we were told we could use it this morning. I’ve already hung out two loads of washing. We’ll be going with constant wash and hang out to dry all weekend I think! Overnight and all!

Skyliner001 · 01/08/2020 17:47

@Chicchicchicchiclana

that's nice dear

Thank you @Skyliner001 , actually means a great deal. I'm in chat, posting about my boring washing and still get a nasty comment. Be kind lasted a long time eh.

Spend most days on my own so actually quite nice to have some adult musings about boring stuff or any stuff, but sometimes I wonder what the point is.

So glad someone else picked up on it and I wasn't just being me and sensitive. Thanks.

Some people just have to be snidey arseholes, OP, ignore 'em.

I love getting washing on the line. A few weeks ago, it was gloriously sunny but breezy (perfect drying weather) and I'd got a washing line full of pristine white sheets. I lay on the grass and watched them flapping in the breeze for ages. It was quite hypnotic and I felt completely relaxed and happy. It was like meditation. Lovely Smile
