Question about specs

If I buy a pair of vintage spec frames can I take them to my opticians to put my prescription lenses in? Is this a terrible idea or am I a genius? Grin

A friend of mine did this. It cost her a bit but they looked really good. Maybe have a chat with the optician first though?

There is a company called Dead Men's Specs that sell frames for doing this.

I've put lenses into old frames often but you take the risk if they break when being fitted and the lenses won't then fit other frames......

You need to make sure they have a CE marking on them otherwise opticians may not reglaze them for you. Also as pp mentioned there’s an increased risk you take if the frame breaks.

Pelleas · 30/07/2020 19:50

Some of the online companies offer reglazing - Glasses Direct do it.

Thanks everyone, stupid question but why would they be at risk of breaking if they were second hand? Is it because they've already had lenses fitted then removed?

Most materials used for spectacles become brittle/weak over time so they are at risk of breaking. Also some materials cannot be reglazed anymore as they are no longer thought to be safe l.
You will need to take them to your opticians for them to check that they can try to reglaze them but it will always be at your own risk.

Thanks mintich that makes sense
