Just because I know you all love a live threadGrin
And also because I promised updates to @notthemum, @pickingdaisies, @RandomMess and @Umberta!

37+0 today. I'm due to get the plaster off my broken ankle tomorrow, been looking forward to it all week and then I had a small gush of liquid this afternoon. Then another, bigger one an hour later, with what was probably my mucus plug.

My hospital bag was packed but I'd bought a load of new stuff in the sale last week so emptied it all out yesterday to wash and start again. DH watching me, rolling his eyes, telling me to "stop acting like I'm going to give birth tomorrow".

Ha! I'll never let him forget that one!!!

Haven't had any contractions yet, bar a couple of minor twinges this morning that went away with painkillers. I'm still on anticoagulants for my foot so just on my way to hospital now to see what the score is and if they'll let me attempt a vbac or if it's going to be another c section.

Wish me luck!

Ha ha. That's my girl. We have to make sure that the important things are sorted.
I'm ready with alcohol, chocolate, cake, balloons and streamers. X

mamansnet · 01/08/2020 10:00

Heading into theatre shortly. Gagging for that chocolate and wine, mum

The surgeon has been called to an emergency but I'm next on the list.

Another doctor has finally explained that I've got to have a section because:

A) they think it's safer to leave the plaster on until after the birth
B) my cervix is still high/clamped shut and not had enough contractions to get it moving (not walking = no gravity from baby's head to put pressure on it)
C) Induction process could take up to 12 hours and then I've got the entire labour to get through, so maybe another 24 hours on top
D) I've had no anticoagulants for my foot since Wednesday so the longer it takes for baby to arrive, the bigger the risk of a blood clot.

Ah.

Would have been nice if they'd told me that sooner, a rational explanation makes it easier to accept the Caesarian that I so desperately wanted to avoid!

Keen to get the show on the road now, been nil by mouth since last night and I want some of notthemum's chocolate...

givemebooks · 01/08/2020 13:28

Just delurking to wish you all the best! :) cannot wait to hear little ones name! I had a c section with my 3rd and chocolate was the best medication!! Xx

notthemum · 01/08/2020 17:48

Hi Maman, I'm just checking on you all. I am terribly impatient when I am waiting for something exciting.
Had a thought, you have probably done this already. Parents I know with a little one already sometimes buy a small toy for the toddler from the baby. (dolly, Teddy small car.) It gives the little one a head start to thinking the baby is a good thing and helps them feel involved x

20NewNames · 01/08/2020 22:20

Hope you’re doing ok Mamansnet.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 01/08/2020 22:28

So sorry for the late update! It's been quite the day.

Clementine was born at 2.27pm French time, measuring 3.1kg and weighing 47cm.

Very happy and in love 🥰 💓 👶

Oh and they took my plaster off shortly afterwards!!!

Have had a ton of sushi, chocolate and a glass of champagne with DH to mark the occasion.

Thanks to everyone for your support and checking in on me! ThanksCakeStarHaloWineDaffodil

Ps @notthemum good thinking Batman - I've ordered a Thomas the Tank railway set for Clem to give her big brother as a hello present. He'll probably lose all interest in "Baby Sister" as soon as he sees it though, might be a useful tactic!!

Congratulations!!! Sounds fantastic Flowers

mamansnet · 02/08/2020 00:06

I won't lie, the section was awful - though better than last time. Just before they started I got really stressed and was sobbing like a loon on the table. DH came in and sang in my ear to calm me down, to great success even though he's tone deaf - it was the theme tune to an 80s/90s French cartoon called Clémentine Halo

My belly hurts a bit, naturally, and I was really nervous earlier about picking her up as I felt so physically fragile/exhausted, but I'm getting more comfortable as time goes on. I pop her on my maternity cushion and we just have feeds and cuddles together. DH is on a mattress on the floor next to me (private room is standard - again, ❤️ French hospitals) and he's on nappy/crying/passing baby to mum duty.

I can't get an X-ray on my ankle until Monday. The maternity doc here spoke to the hospital that treated the fracture, they all say we have to assume I can't walk on it until the X-ray confirms if it's healed or not. So I've announced that I'm staying in bed until then and letting other people (DH!) look after us until I know otherwise. My foot is so much lighter though - if I wasn't afraid of bursting my stitches with the Zimmer I could have a lovely sit-down shower without having to first wrap up the cast in towels and bin bags, stick it on a stool and try not to fall off the shower seat in the process!

Congratulations @mamansnet, such a beautiful name.

Loving that your drinking champagne in a hospital bed, can’t imagine the nhs letting you away with that.
