Has anyone ever moved to an area they just didn't like?

Just that really...
Have you ever moved to an area where you disliked? And why?

I moved to an area in the Midlands and I put my DD in the local school here. Ever since moving here it's been horrible. I've been shouted at by another parent on the playground. Had stroppy neighbours that won't let me cut my own apple tree in my garden. And basically the entire village is cliquey and horrible and I wished I'd never moved here.
Anyone else? Please tell me I'm not on my own.

@StoneColdBitch sorry to hear your husband found it unfriendly. Agree town centre is having huge problems. A lot of people seem to move here when jobs relocate to Birmingham. In my old job at an out of school club I met and got to know a lot of families that had moved. Without exception they were really positive about their move and have settled here. Sometimes one bad experience can colour your whole opinion of a place. Each to their own eh!

I’m from the east coast of Lincolnshire (so not a snob from down south). I moved to the midlands (Nuneaton to be precise) and it’s a shithole...no redeeming features that I could find.
Moved a few months later to S Birmingham which at least does have some redeeming features and therefore not a shithole.

Oh dear... midlands!!! I moved to keyworth near Notts (moved because of a man lol!). Odd place! Strange people. Unattractive area, which is a shame as the vale of Belvoir is lovely, and not friendly.

I was born in London (Ealing and Brent) lived all over London and Hertfordshire when young,. My parents moved to Diss in Suffold when I was a teenager - hated it.

My husband's from Solihull so when we had kids we moved up here - I hated it as it wasn't my cup of tea - we've moved again only 5 miles up the road now we've been released from the schoold leash (Both went to Tudor Grange) and we love it in Moseley - wished we'd done it sooner, but anyway - I do love the West Midlands, personally - even Solihull wasn't a shithole just a bit snobby imhop.

Sorry to jump on the Midlands dislike but yeah, I'd agree. Derby specifically and after 8 years I've tried to like it but as pp said, its one redeeming feature is that its easy to get anywhere else in the country. I'm originally from the South West - Bristol so I'm missing the culture if I'm honest and we'd be well on our way out of here if you know what hadn't have happened.

I have travelled all over and lived in some really dodgy areas.
Never had a problem

I was attacked on 3 separate occasions in Birmingham (once in the BullRing)

Carlisle- lasted 6 months. Strange small minded people and isolated location.
The local students union used to tell its members not to go into the town at night, as so many students had been attacked.

East Midlands for a while. Xenophobic locals suspicious of outsiders. Went into the pub and everyone stopped to stare at me like it was the wild west. Managed 6 months thought "nah" and moved north to Yorkshire. Very happy in Yorkshire too, absolutely love it - locals friendly, happy to chat in the pub and get banter over the football (full of Leeds & Liverpool fans here whereas I'm a Villa fan and my wife's a Chelsea fan). Don't ever ever want to leave here, it's like heaven for me.

Wow! Commuter belt all is forgiven. It seems the
Midlands is the worst place in the world. (I quite liked Brum when I visited) Grin

We lasted 2 years and it was the most miserable time of our lives. We were definitely outsiders.

Lived in Eastleigh in Hampshire for 5 years, and hated it. Everyone was so unfriendly, never spoke, treated us as outsiders as we were in council housing as a short term measure after leaving the forces, and needing to look around for housing. No one said a friendly word, not in shops, school or in the short term job it took, just to keep busy. Vile place.

Moved to a small village in Yorkshire and it was like the sun came out. Everyone speaks, everyone smiles and helps you out. Street parties, local fun runs, fund raising, etc. Plus a nice house we bought and lovely colleagues at work.

People who voted out are no different than those who voted to stay!

That is so obviously not true. People who voted to leave must necessarily have a totally different world view to me. That's nothing to do with hate at all, I really love DM who voted leave.

I'm sure that most leavers are as friendly, hospitable and charming as remainers but I would find it really hard to live somewhere where there were a lot of them.

@LST

I was reading through and saw someone call the midlands a shithole and I hate it. If people hear the area that they live in and more than likely are stuck living in, a shithole enough it becomes a mindset. Why does it matter if we fly tip, be antisocial, it's a shithole anyway. Its bullshit. That's why I commented because it isnt fair to hear. I am proud of where I live. It used to be the centre of the industrial revolution. Then the workers were all shat on and now snobs from down south think they can just call it a shithole like it means nothing to the people living there.

There'll be a lot of these type of threads when HS2 is up and running and the West Midlands becomes another dormitory area for London.

Unfortunately “Brexitland” covers whole swathes of the country, take a look at the voting results map. I lived in a newish suburb of a city in the southwest for many years. I absolutely hated it, I never found people on the same page as me despite trying numerous activities to try and make some friends. It was great for the DC and decent schools but as soon as they left home I moved. I didn’t move far but the vibe where I live now is totally different. I don’t think it’s fair to dismiss whole areas because you end up in a particular spot that doesn’t suit you.

ThisbackwithaVengeance your post sums up the experience of lots of Londoners so why do so many people persist with the stereotype that all Londoners are filthy rich, super hip, stuck up, woolly minded, arty-farty liberals? It’s just plain lazy, misguided and insulting.

It's a huge place, whereabouts are you thinking of?

We are in the Midlands. In the last few weeks we've been going out for local day trips and trying to avoid the crowds. We've been watching military planes take off and land, been to a gliding club, the coast, canoeing on the river, and hill walking all within an hour of home. We've also done a scenic drive through some lovely villages and been fruit picking (free/charity donation as the field owner had no fruit pickers and didn't want the fruit to go to waste). All of this has been free apart from petrol and the charity donation.

About all we haven't done is find somewhere decent to go paddling so if anybody knows anywhere within two hours of the middle of the Midlands then please share the info.

I wish I was filthy rich. Wouldn’t have had to leave London in the first place then.
