If you saw a payslip left open at someone's house, would you take a look?

Assuming you don't already know how much they earn.

No I haven't but I left mine out and wondered if some visitors to my home might have sneaked a peek.

No, I wouldn't. Partly because where I work people´s salary is on a scale decided by the state and I could probably work out what different people earn if I really wanted to, and secondly, because I never think about what other people earn. If I worked in a place where salary was negotiated individually, I guess I might be more interested.

Mitsouko67 · 29/07/2020 19:47

Definitely wouldn't.

DariaMorgendorffer · 29/07/2020 19:48

No, I wouldn't.

PigletJohn · 29/07/2020 19:49

I think I would avert my eyes in the same way that I would look away if I walked into a room when you were changing your underwear.

DuckonaBike · 29/07/2020 19:49

No, because that’s a crap thing to do.

People claiming anyone who says they wouldn’t is lying, why not consider that some people do actually have principles and live by them in real life?
I’m not that shocked that some people would look, but I’m really shocked if you don’t believe some people wouldn’t. That level of cynicism is quite worrying.

itbemay1 · 29/07/2020 19:50

Nope! I'm not that nosy and I think that's a real breach of trust and privacy

newreality1 · 29/07/2020 19:51

No

AuntyPasta · 29/07/2020 19:53

I wouldn’t look. I would respect that it’s private and it’s also just not something that would be of any interest to me. I’d be more tempted by a supermarket delivery receipt- that’s my kind of nosy - but I’d try not to look.

Staplemaple · 29/07/2020 19:55

I don't think it's overly principled or not to look at a payslip to be honest. It's not a huge deal, if it's left out in plain view I do believe that the vast majority would have a glance even if not particularly arsed.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 29/07/2020 20:03

No, I'm just not that interested in other people.
Most of my friends are open about themselves and we know roughly what each of us earn. People who are not that close then no, it's their business and I just can't bring myself to care what they earn.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 29/07/2020 20:05

parents who open visiting children’s school bags on playdates to check their reading band and if they’re getting more challenging extra work

People do that? That is so sad!

WyfOfBathe · 29/07/2020 20:05

I got 'kicked out' (for a couple of hours) at for sneaking a peek at my dad's when I was a teenager. I think that put enough fear in me not to do it again!

Lookyloo · 29/07/2020 20:06

I'd try to encourage someone else to open it lol once I got a look too!

Serin · 29/07/2020 20:07

No

TrickyKid · 29/07/2020 20:09

No. It would be of zero interest to me.

Lonelycrab · 29/07/2020 20:10

No

D4rwin · 29/07/2020 20:10

No. I wouldn't but I've always had work in jobs where discretion, privacy and trust is everything, so putting nosiness aside is not hard for me.

LightDrizzle · 29/07/2020 20:11

No! 100% no!

dippydeedoo · 29/07/2020 20:12

No, I wouldn’t and that’s quite truthful, I have no desire to know what anyone earns except me and my dp, I don’t even know or ask what my sons earn.

I think what you earn isn’t directly relevant to how you live, so what would you get out of knowing?

tigger1001 · 29/07/2020 20:20

No.

I genuinely don't care what others earn - it just doesn't interest me. And it's only a snapshot anyway - those saying it would show if someone was being tight, no it doesn't. It doesn't show what their outgoings are. Could have a ton of debt, or other bills that people are unaware of.

I am generally not very observant so probably wouldn't notice anyway.

DocusDiplo · 29/07/2020 20:30

I'm not that interested. And I'd feel bad..so no.

AvoidingRealHumans · 29/07/2020 20:30

Definitely not and I would feel violated if someone did this to me

MaximumDose · 29/07/2020 20:32

Yes. Happily.

Twothousandzerozero · 29/07/2020 20:32

No, absolutely not, wtf! Confused

rosiethehen · 29/07/2020 20:34

I have to go into people's homes as part of my job, but I never nosy at stuff that's around. I just get on with my job. If people trust you enough to allow you access to their home, you shouldn't take advantage by looking at private stuff.
