AARRGHHH!! My gelatine "ice cubes" are not as firm as I'd hoped they'd be

Any ideas for something else I could use to make "ice cubes" to go on top of a cake (and nestle a couple of miniature JD in)?

Acrylic ones?

You could find a recipe for sugar glass, but it might be tricky to make cubes out of it!

Ooh crikey, not for that price!

I wonder if I could firm up the jelly somehow...I'll google and see

@DrMadelineMaxwell yes! Thank you! I'll have an "emergency" trip to the shop first thing (and hope they have them)

I saw someone do it by adding extra gelatin to packet jelly.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/07/2020 18:19

They are clear

Can you make more with a higher gelatine content? Alternatively, use sugar but it'll be trickier.

wowfudge · 28/07/2020 18:20

Fox's Glacier Mints is a good call!

JollyAndBright · 28/07/2020 18:22

I’ve done this before a few times,
I used clear boiled sweets,
foxes Glacier mints work really well if you don’t mind them being minty.

Melt them slowly in a pan being careful not to burn them, let cool a little and the pour into a silicone ice cube tray.

lucysmam · 28/07/2020 18:23

I think the mints are my best bet if either of the shops up the street have them. I knew I should have test-run before today when I want the cake for tomorrow evening 🙄

Never mind. Was worth a try!

Turkish Delight, the one with the powdered sugar on, get the least coloured stuff you can find (vanilla or lemon) and cut the edges off.

This sounds like an excellent euphemism for boobs.

As you were.

lucysmam · 28/07/2020 19:14

Grin @backseatcookers where on Earth did you get boobs from? That's properly made me giggle!
