Has anyone ever sold any art?

Hi all, I've have an artwork which is worth in the range of £10-£20k which I'm thinking of selling. I literally have no idea how to do this and even if I'd need to pay tax or anything else. I could probably do it via Ebay but not that keen TBH. Any help would be great. TIA

Find a good auctioneer. Have a look online for someone who regularly sells art of the same kind of value and style. They will have a readymade pool of buyers.
What did you pay for it? There’s the potential for capital gains tax. You have an annual allowance which should cover most of the gain but might need to pay tax beyond that threshold.

Don’t stick it on eBay! Too much faff and potentially for problems.

If it is a well known artist there may be a fan page (internet or Facebook) which will have ready made collectors and enthusiasts. Don't say you're ready to sell - join in and start observing & asking where they got theirs, what sort of prices they paid as if you wanted to collect too. They might hopefully mention what auctioneers are most knowledgeable and successful with your artist. This is how we did it when a couple of pieces by a well known C20th wildlife artist were passed down to my MIL.

I paid very little for it but it was a very good buy & artist is very sought after. Good idea re fan pages - I'm not desperate to sell but the money would come in handy. Thank you.
