Holiday French campsite

Hi,

We have a holiday booked in August at a french campsite (eurocamp type thing but booked direct with the site) It's a medium / large site with outdoor pools, a shop and a restaurant. Our accommodation is a stand-alone self catering chalet / lodge type thing with its own deck. We'd be travelling by ferry (cabin booked) and our own car. The area is quiet / rural but the campsite is busy by the pool area (we've been before).

We'd planned to spend our time at the pool, visiting quiet beaches and eating in the on-site restaurant (with some self catering opening of cheese too).

We were all set to go, but I'm now having another wobble after the latest news from Spain. I'm not even sure if we could reschedule or get a refund now as technically it is all open but would you try for this? Or just go and enjoy? I'm worried about the risk of contracting Covid whilst there and being sick / isolating away from home with young children and also the risk of quarantine being imposed. My job is difficult / impossible to do from home.

What would you do?

We are going to a similar site in a week. We are going by Eurotunnel though and worst case can drive/train home in a day.
From having been before I’m confident we can be as safe as we are here in terms of avoiding other people - large beaches etc and one or two trips to hyper market. We do lots of cycling etc, aren’t planning tourist hotspots.

I can WFH though in return if I need to, so don’t have that worry.

@fiorentina I agree about keeping as safe there as here. Just worried about worse case of getting ill over there, or the work issue if we do have to quarantine. So hard to know what to do for the best.

We are supposed to be going next week and I feel the same!
Ferry have just informed us that all cabins are closed... even though we booked one, so I'm not happy about that.
I know we can stay safe there as we are staying in a private house in the middle of nowhere, it's just that self isolating for 14 days on return would cause us no end of problems.

I think you'd be mad to go overseas in the middle of all this! Can you get a refund? France's covid cases are on the rise, 14-day self isolation could be introduced with very little notice.

If you get ill there can you afford to stay for weeks more than booked? I think the idea of DH I both getting ill abroad with small children in two would put me off.

I would reluctantly decide not to go, the writing is already on the wall for quarantine on return from France.

I've got a day off tomorrow so think will spend some time trying to work out where we stand with refunds / moving to next year.

Your comments are exactly where I'm at with it all. Kids will be disappointed but don't know what other choice we have realistically!
