Camp sites - teens

Hi

Fancy camping at some point over the summer (UK). Our son is 17 as are most of his mates. They want to camp but I’m finding sites (only tried Camping and Caravanning club so far) will not allow under 18s on a pitch alone.

We want to take a motor home for us (me and DH) and the boys have tents.

I’m surprised we can’t do this. Anyone got experience if this?

Surely 17 year olds will not realistically want to share with parents!

But they won't be alone. If it's all one booking, then they aren't alone. Call up, and books van spot and an adjacent tent spot for "two adults and two kids".

Find a site that allows tents and vans to pitch beside one another.

Orcaber caravan and camping park near Settle, Yorkshire Dales.
DS1 and four friends, all 17 just had four nights there. A friend's mum checked them in, had a good chat with the owners who kindly said they'd keep an eye on them. We all live an hour away which they were fine with.
Had a great time. Lovely site too.

Thanks for these replies.

Bednadette I’ve tried that. Am amazed but they don’t accept that as a booking.

Will try other sites, aside from Caravan Club.

cptartap that sounds fab. Too far away for us, but gives hope!

If most of his mates are 17 are the others 16 or some 18? If one is 18 would they accept the booking?

coolcamping.com/campsites/uk/england/east-anglia/norfolk/norwich/90-whitlingham-broad-campsite/units/7580-simple-campervan-pitch

This place allows tents to be pitched next to camper vans

bankofpennies · 27/07/2020 21:24

Have you looked on the pitch up website?

Springcleanish · 27/07/2020 21:31

We booked at Stowford Farm Meadows when my son was 16. We booked two adjoining pitches with an adult booked on each pitch and kept an eye on them to ensure they won’t too loud at night etc. In reality we were in our caravan and our son and 3 friends were in a tent. It also meant that we chilled their cider and therefore kept strict tabs on how much they consumed in an evening! The site were aware and happy with this.

Thanks everyone. There’s hope then! Will try a few more tomorrow. All who want to go are 17.

Is it a motor home or a camper van?

If camper van find one of the sites that has a ‘pitch where you like’ policy and charges per person rather than pitch or tent, and then book ad a group E.g the Camping Unplugged sites, Kingsdown, Bedgebury, Thistledown, Merrylands, Dernwood to name but a few in the SE and SW.

But they don’t take bigger MHs, I don’t think.

C&C are utterly rule bound, I can’t bear their sites, personally.

Flyinggeese · 28/07/2020 11:28

Thanks InTheWings. Camper van. Great advice, will avoid CC.
