I received this text (see image one) and the link led me to this website ( see image two). Is it a scam? I'm holding out a little hope as the money could really come in useful ConfusedBlush

You don't really need to ask do you. It couldn't be more obvious if it had SCAM SCAM SCAM as the subject Grin

SockYarn · 27/07/2020 19:41

Don't be bloody ridiculous.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 27/07/2020 19:42

Not legit HMRC do not contact people by text they are still very much brown envelope in the post.

TheGreatWave · 27/07/2020 19:43

Sorry big fat scam.

Do a virus scan though. (Never click on links)

ureterr1blemuriel · 27/07/2020 19:43

Scam - all the official ones end gov.uk

Delbelleber · 27/07/2020 19:44

Whenever I've had a rebate it arrives in the post unannounced

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 27/07/2020 19:44

HMRC either send a letter or they put a message in your government gateway account and you get an email notification to login to your account to view the message. They don't even provide a link to the website as that could look like a phishing scam

Caravanserai · 27/07/2020 19:45

Honestly, OP.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 27/07/2020 19:47

You've clicked on the link? Phishing complete! Check all your passwords and access to your details on everything... (I saw an episode of Hunted so I'm basically a cyber expert now)

MrsSwears2Much · 27/07/2020 19:48

Aww damn it. I wanted a little extra cash this month as well. Looks like it's too good to be true Sad
Thanks to all who were nice.
Everyone else. Give yourselves a shake. I was only asking a question. No need for the the sarcasm or disdainful remarks.

TrickyKid · 27/07/2020 19:49

Why did you click on the link? Obviously a scam. Look at the web address on the top of the page!!

MrsSwears2Much · 27/07/2020 19:49

@SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend REALLY?! Should I be really worried now? ConfusedShockConfused

captainprincess · 27/07/2020 20:02

I know it's too late but in future don't click on links like this. I'd be changing your passwords...

heartsonacake · 27/07/2020 20:06

🤦‍♀️

You should never ever click on links you cannot trust, and that is quite obviously not a legitimate text or website, because you can end up with viruses and all sorts.

Witchend · 27/07/2020 20:31

It's a well known scam. Get your PC/phone antivirus going.

You didn't fill anything out did you?

PeanutButterKid · 27/07/2020 21:34

I didn't know they ever rebated. Thought it was all changes to next year tax code or credit towards next year's bill.

TheGreatWave · 27/07/2020 22:41

I had one quite a few years back - I wasn't working at the time and was the period when I was receiving SMP. so my tax was all out. When I then started back at work and they had me on the emergency tax code at first they just later adjusted my code so it all worked out.
AlCalavicci · 27/07/2020 22:59

There seems to be a whole new raft of text scams doing the rounds lately , I have had that tax one , Amazon prime, tv licence and a your account has been hacked from my Barclays bank which is bloody clever since I have never banked with them .
Take heart OP , you certainly won't be the only one to be caught out but as PP have said get all your internet accessible devices scanned for malware and in future take a screen shot , go onto a device that has been checked for viruses and go the correct website and compare your screen shot to the authentic website .
After doing it a few time with different ones you get to be able to spot the fakes quite easily.
