Are you busy at work?

Just wondering what other people’s experience is of their work right now. Is anyone actually really madly busy? If so, what do you do?

Things are pretty quiet for me (corporate lawyer). Clients/colleagues all seem to have a bit more time to chat as well, so I don’t think it is just me.

Horrendously busy.
I’m very stressed about it as there are not enough hours in the day to fit it all in.
I just can’t deliver what is expected and I feel so so guilty about it.
Insurmountable pressures and demands from every angle.

I’m a nurse.

Sanch1 · 27/07/2020 15:45

Ridiculously! Building Surveyor working for a very large multi-national on a lot of Government projects. It's mental. Back from annual leave today and already counting down until my next leave.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/07/2020 15:45

I've been on furlough and I've been called back into work because they're suddenly very busy. Apparently we are beating last year on sales! I'm in furniture manufacturing. I guess with everyone being stuck at home and not having holidays they want to update their homes. Grin

Infullbloom · 27/07/2020 15:46

Vet nurse. Insanely busy, we've had several staff members hand in their notice in recent weeks due to the stress.

Nquartz · 27/07/2020 15:48

Brought back from furlough because everybody else was but have very little to do, I work for a retailer looking after travel products so limited demand.

I've enjoyed working from home watching tv whilst doing the odd bit but expected back in the office so will be listening to lots of podcasts

speakout · 27/07/2020 15:48

Crazy busy.

I have my own small business working from home- I make and sell stuff.

It has been like christmas levels for a couple of months now I am snowed under with orders.

SueEllenMishke · 27/07/2020 15:50

Ridiculously busy.
I'm so stressed as we're both try to WFH full time in really busy jobs with next to no childcare for DS 5.
I'm a senior lecturer and DH is senior management at another university.

ApocalypseNowt · 27/07/2020 15:51

Debt advisor here. We are (unsurprisingly) busy!

Mindymomo · 27/07/2020 15:52

My son is the only person working from home in our house. He works for a fragence supplier and they are extremely busy.

vanillandhoney · 27/07/2020 15:53

I'm a dog walker.

I'm pretty busy. Lots of lockdown puppies, plus people who are now back at work and need their dogs walking again. It helps that the previous main dog walker in the area used lockdown as an opportunity to retire, so I've acquired a lot of his customers Grin

heartsonacake · 27/07/2020 15:55

Yes, very very busy. I work in hospitality.

Nobody being made redundant here, and no chance of the business closing either as it’s booming.

mindutopia · 27/07/2020 15:56

Yes, horribly busy. But then I've had 3 months of not being able to get much of anything besides about 10-15 hours of work done in a week, so months worth of work has built up. I've been home with 2 dc (school age and a toddler) and unfortunately dh has a job that cannot be done from home, so it's all been on me, except for a day or two here and there when he took time off (unpaid) to take over with dc because I had a big meeting or conference or something. Now things are starting up again, so I have like 3-4 months of work that's been piling up, plus all the work that I wasn't allowed to do (NHS research halted during COVID) that I now need to start up for deadlines that were like 3 months ago. And then I still only have 3 child free days a week (dc in holiday club and nursery, but not full time). I'm a clinical researcher.

Pinkvici22 · 27/07/2020 15:56

Incredibly busy, so much so that I worry constantly that I’m going to make a mistake because everything is so rushed - also a lawyer.

I’m also struggling to fit in holidays (but going anywhere) and this seems impossible - courts are so busy it’s ridiculous.

Sometimes. I work shifts, and it's always busier at night, although I don't think it's that we have more work it's that we have less staff.

Pregnantandredundant · 27/07/2020 16:00

Nope. Not busy at all. As you can probably tell by my username.

Feel like I’m lacking a purpose. It’s really hard. Am currently working my redundancy notice period but obviously zero motivation to actually do any work for a company who have made me redundant at 6 months pregnant.

CatBatCat · 27/07/2020 16:03

Therapy - yep, very busy.

mogloveseggs · 27/07/2020 16:06

Hospitality-mad busy!

BoredHoolet · 27/07/2020 16:13

Therapy - yes, can imagine anyone in the de-stressing business is rushed off their feet.

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus - I do some (niche) insolvency related work. We are waiting for the bolt to drop in my area and expect to be much busier in the coming months. But just really pretty quiet now. Maybe people taking annual leave.

Pleased to hear there is loads going on for others though, in a good way.

Busy in retail. But the sales are amazing, don't know how it will be when it's non sales time...

tsmainsqueeze · 27/07/2020 16:32

vet nurse -run off our feet , busy practice anyway so used to fast pace but have never known my shift fly so fast as now.

Rosiesma · 27/07/2020 16:44

Hospitality here and yes, mad busy.
With reduced capacity you'd think we'd not be but that's eclipsed by the extra involved in making sure we're Covid compliant, but even then I think we're still seeing increased footfall too.
It's not made much easier by the Stampy feet "I don't like it" brigade taking up staff time twittering on about having to walk in one direction because they don't want to, or moaning that they can't get service from the bar and have to suffer the awful indignity of having it delivered to the table they're sitting at.

Cruddles · 27/07/2020 16:44

I work in the city. WFH has made no difference to workload except less bullshit meetings, so life is much easier for me. Long may it continue

MistyIsland · 27/07/2020 17:48

Crazy workload here.

Construction industry, but I have been run off my feet for the past 3 weeks!
