Are you busy at work?

Just wondering what other people’s experience is of their work right now. Is anyone actually really madly busy? If so, what do you do?

Things are pretty quiet for me (corporate lawyer). Clients/colleagues all seem to have a bit more time to chat as well, so I don’t think it is just me.

No not really, I'm a PA and spent most of my time booking travel avd events. There is no travel and there are no events...

verypeckish · 27/07/2020 22:28

Accounts in manufacturing component supply company.

We are at about half-speed at the moment as several of our biggest customers are still closed, so in my spare time I am going through a load of old paperwork and scanning it all in, then shredding it. Dull, but it is clearing the decks of unnecessary stuff clogging up the files, and at least it's stopping me from twiddling my thumbs.

My colleague, on the other hand, is spending all day on the phone and online chasing up back orders of gloves, overalls and masks, all of which are used in industry for health and safety (and must be worn) and our customers are desperate for them. Of course he's having a complete nightmare trying to source stock.

Really busy. I work for a courier company and recently has been busier than our busiest day during peak season.

QueenCT · 27/07/2020 22:50

Car dealership. Crazy busy

Booq · 27/07/2020 22:58

Project manager in a digital agency. Busy! People are still making websites at the moment...

PMTRex · 27/07/2020 23:05

HR - crazy busy. Usual HR stuff but with added Covid-19 shit like Furlough, home deployment for all staff, what to do for staff who can't work from home, big reorganisation and redundancy programme........

delilahbucket · 27/07/2020 23:05

Self employed retailer and snowed under. I've even taken on a member of staff a few weeks ago. My sales are higher than Christmas and have consistently been so since April. It does not show signs of slowing and I will be looking to recruit another person in September.

Kingofthenorth · 27/07/2020 23:31

Crazy busy!

Work at a UK tourist attraction.

Visitor figures are good and secondary spends are amazing!

People seem to have a lot of money to spend!

Fusillage · 28/07/2020 00:08

Was terribly quiet and the second I announced I was off on annual leave it went batshit. There’s got to be a bell that goes off somewhere Angry

Redears3 · 28/07/2020 00:15

Overwhelmed
NHS, Inpatient & Community mental heath patients

Sunbird24 · 28/07/2020 00:26

Yes, have worked every week since Feb, with between 1/4 and 1/2 normal manpower levels. Cyber security.

Clutterfreeintraining · 28/07/2020 06:47

Really busy. Childcare.
I've worked throughout but the first 8 weeks were very easy.
The last few weeks have been quite stressful trying to accommodate everyone whilst following new guidelines. I normally love the school holidays...when it's for a couple of weeks at a time but currently on wk10 of school holiday level of work with very few places to go and 2 more weeks until I'm off.

Dk20 · 28/07/2020 07:44

Yes, in finance.
WFH with 2 DC here since early March.
Hate it so much right now, I've been looking for jobs in other depts hoping for less (or no)overtime.
We're all overworked, tired, have no support or direction and then getting snapped at if we make a minor mistake.
In dreading logging in this morning.

chillimartini · 28/07/2020 12:04

@CatBatCat is that online therapy?

mosscarpet · 28/07/2020 18:17

nhs clinician in mental health team. Totally overwhelmed, non stop busy and so, so stresful. And my job has become much much harder due to all restrictions etc. So massively increased demand with a million hurdles to overcome to deliver care. Cant see an end to it for a very long time either Sad

Animum2 · 28/07/2020 21:20

Not massively busy but enough to keep us going (sharedealing)

CatBatCat · 28/07/2020 21:20

@chillimartini yes, sessions are all via zoom.

dotdashdashdash · 28/07/2020 21:22

To take the words of another:

Horrendously busy.
I’m very stressed about it as there are not enough hours in the day to fit it all in.
I just can’t deliver what is expected and I feel so so guilty about it.
Insurmountable pressures and demands from every angle.

A brief reprise in the last 3 weeks but it is heating up again and quickly.

I’m a Doctor (ICU)

topcat2014 · 28/07/2020 21:24

Not busy. Finance director in manufacturing. My staff on furlough and not many orders.

Nervous about whether work will come back. We supply car manufacturers and aircraft firms. What a combination..

Worstyear2020 · 28/07/2020 21:25

Very busy and stressed here (data communication) that's because we are shutting our centres down in the UK. Redundancies process has begin.

OhTheRoses · 28/07/2020 21:26

Crazy busy. Managing a team of 20 over zoom. Director of HR. It's bloody awful.

thisislovelyme · 28/07/2020 21:28

Yep really busy, property management company, love it.

BadEyeBri · 28/07/2020 21:38

Vet surgeon. Incredibly busy. We are considering taking on more staff

willstarttomorrow · 28/07/2020 21:55

Yes, senior child protection social worker. We are always busy but far busier since lockdown. Most supporting agencies stopped face-to-face visits and lots of health visitors and mental health professionals were redeployed. Vulnerable children always get forgotten but the schools we work with have been incredible. It is going to get much worse though because there will be huge budget cuts. I am lucky enough to work in an outstanding LA who are usually pretty solvent but emails from senior management predict a huge cut in resources.

Gormless · 28/07/2020 21:56

Senior academic at a UK university. Working all hours to try and get ready for a new term where it’s not clear if we’ll be teaching entirely online or some face to face as well (but having to prepare for both). Barely stopped since lockdown when we had to move to online at a moments notice and then work with all sorts of modified summer exam arrangements. I don’t know any academic who’s managed to take anything even close to their full holiday allowance this year. I know our professional services colleagues are suffering too. But I also know others have it worse.
