LinkedIn? In my experience it’s a means for recruitment consultants to farm clients even where there’s no match between profile and job. But you may find it helpful if you’re self-employed. There’s likely a knack to creating a profile that ticks all the recruiter boxes and means you get noticed.

You do get endless approaches from recruitment consultants, but it’s a handy professional calling card and it’s free. If you’re not going to have your own website it’s probably the easiest and safest way to let clients find you on the internet and keep track of contacts. It’s not a magic wand but it’s worth it if you’re providing “corporate” services.
