I need to cut both my own hair and DD's before she starts back at school. Hers is very long and curly so probably not too hard to do without mucking up, mine is just long and relatively straight with no proper style as such, so I don't think I'm being overly ambitious! Was thinking of getting one of those clips that you can put in to make sure it's all the same length but was wondering if anyone had any experience with them and whether they actually work.

For curly hair, I found it went best by cutting it when dry, taking one curl at a time. The spring-back was too much (and irregular) when I tried cutting curly hair damp/wet.

My teenage dds and me have cut each other's hair under lockdown. I've got straight hair, dd1 wavy, dd2 veŕy curly. Dd1's was fairly straightforward. Just cut round and checked it was even. Came out well. Dd2 and I needed 2 attempts to get it even and in both cases it came out shorter than intended but neither of us minded. All cut wet

Thanks for the tips! DD has such long hair I feel I have plenty to play with before it becomes noticeably shorter

I have straighteners so that's useful to know for mine too
