Live aid - watching for the first time

It's that point in lock down, after owning it for over ten years I'm watching my 5 disc boxset of live aid. I was 5 when it came out and only remember my dad watching the TV all day and being bored. There's a few acts I don't know, especially on the USA side but finding it really interesting. My dc however are not so thrilled!
Was anyone there?

Not there, but I remember watching it on the TV.
Some great acts, but also a lot of time when it was safe to leave the room for a bit without fear of missing too much.

At the time it was such a phenomenal thing though. This was WAY before the time of all the fundraisers (Comic Relief, Sports Relief, Children in Need) etc you see now. Now facility to 'text' your donation. No facility to 'donate on line'. All a whole new concept for all of us. No phone banking or internet banking. No mobile phones - you had your family phone in the hallway.
The idea of getting so many artists together for one concert was just immense.
As for Phil Collins playing at both venues - mind blowing.

Your level of Kudos in School was effected by how well your band did! Watched every moment on TV. Very exciting day.

Yeah it was amazing.
Truly felt world changing.
I went to the Free Mandela concert too that was the same.
none of the feelings were drug induced either, the drugs were later Grin
