If you were once an audit manager what do you do now?

As the title says, has anyone made the move from an audit manager to something different - but still finance/accountancy related?

Been doing this job forever and need inspiration regarding a change of career path. What route did you take?

Specifically mentioned that I'm a manager as my pay is higher than a recently qualified auditor who may have moved on straight after qualifying...

Anyone?

You would normally move across and work for a former client. It's basically Pretty Woman with numbers.

Moved over to internal audit in industry and specialised in tech. Which I prefer to the stuff I used to do in Big4. Would consider next move to maybe 1st line.

I'm an Audit Manager (Internal Audit) so interested in the responses.

I'm in my 50s though so am not planning any moves. I'm happy where I am and enjoy my job. I am planning to stay until I can retire. I am not ruling out going for promotion to Senior Audit Manager though.

Some of my former Audit Manager colleagues have moved on however in the last year or so. To senior financial management and senior operational delivery roles, where their insight in relation to risk management, control and governance have been welcomed. They are doing great and haven't looked back.

We are Civil Servants though, so it is easy to move between departments.

What do you fancy doing OP? What other line of work interests you?

I should add that both went on promotion. Neither went on a level transfer. One to CS G6 and the other to SCS1.

Went contracting in 2001 doing year end/ audit prep from the other side. Contracts extended and I got involved in other things and went permanent. Have had a couple of long term jobs as financial control + tax, good variety and interesting. Have worked on system implementations, corporate restructuring, implementation of new accounting standards and some tax projects.
I have had a more interesting career than I could have ever expected since I left practice.
