Unintentional dick move... Argh

I queue jumped today in Lidl. I had a screaming baby with me who wouldn't go into his stroller. I jumped ahead of two ladies who were waiting for the till I went to but were queueing down the next aisle rather than the one directly behind the till. I thought they were queueing for another till so didn't give it much thought when they started muttering and moved to stand very closely behind me. It wasn't until I was leaving the store that I noticed there was no other till open. It dawned on me that I had jumped ahead of them and that's why they were annoyed. Argh!!!

Before anyone asks, no I didn't go back to apologise I just wanted to get DS in the car as it was pouring with rain and he was crying and my hands were full.

Please say I'm not alone in being an unintentional dick.

I unintentionally queue jumped the other day. Was heading towards the back of the queue, thought I saw the last person in the queue because the Only other person around was really far down the aisle and I assumed she was browsing, turns out she was just leaving a ridiculously big gap between them and haven’t moved up. Heard her sighing and tutting behind my back but didn’t reason why until we had been in the queue for a while. Didn’t say anything either.

Both the woman in my story and yours could have easily say ‘oh excuse me, we were in the queue’ and it would have been sorted.

It happens.

I wouldn’t dwell on it OP, if they’re not going to queue in an obvious place, or point out that there’s a queue, then misunderstandings like this are bound to happen.

Yetiyoga · 25/07/2020 21:02

Try not to worry op, it was an accident.
@MinorArcana I thought it was pretty common knowledge that you have to queue down the aisles in aldi/ lidl at the moment. It has been the case for a good few months. But I guess if you havent been in shops then you arent to know.

MinorArcana · 25/07/2020 22:43

@Yetiyoga I know that you have to queue down the aisles. That’s the case in many supermarkets.

OP said that they “were queueing down the next aisle rather than the one directly behind the till” which suggests to me that it wasn’t immediately obvious that they were actually queuing.

My usual super market doesn’t queue down the aisle. I twice shopped at a competitor and just walked into place at the til and paid and left. It was the third time I did it my child pointed out my error and I turned round to see a whole aisle worth of queue. Huge dick!

Years ago I followed a fire engine with blue lights down a road. I thought the cars parked on either side were badly parked .... then it dawned on me that they’d all pulled over to let the fire engine past and I was massively queue jumping Blush

I was in a well spaced, socially distanced queue and a customer didn't realise and went to stand in front of me. I just said the queue is back here, he didn't realise, and said sorry and went to the queue. I would have let you go in front of me though!

DappledOliveGroves · 25/07/2020 22:52

Don't worry, OP. Years ago I was in Waitrose on the Holloway Road in London and Fiona Bruce managed to queue jump in exactly the same way. She looked mortified when she realised but the man in the queue was delighted to let her and her family go ahead 😂

My own faux pas - when DD was a couple of months old, I was in a busy car park on a Saturday, trying to find a space. DD was screaming, I saw a space and immediately drove in and parked. Only when I'd got out the car did my friend, who had been in the passenger seat, point out that another car had been patiently waiting for the space, indicator on, and is merrily driven straight into it without even noticing them. Oops.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has done this sort of thing. I felt really cheeky and embarrassed when I realised.
