Is beer an appropriate gift for new parents?

DH close colleagues are having a baby. She is being induced right now. DH mentioned that everyone will get them stuff for the baby and he thinks we should get them some beer.
I am not so sure. It seems a bit inappropriate but then the mum isn't BF and they are both extremely responsible (and the husband has waited for this baby for decades as his ex wife was infertile) and some of the nicest people I have ever met.
Would you buy some beer for new parents?

All these people saying get champagne, the couple may not like champagne. Craft beer is a huge business now and it’s also incredibly popular with woman - not just men. I have female friends who would rather have a beer over a bottle of champagne.

Everyone always buys for the baby. I always try to make a point of buying something for the grown ups. Especially something dad can enjoy too, because dad often gets forgotten about.
I usually do a gift bag with a small drink each to toast the birth when they're ready, chocolates/sweets, some nice tea/coffee, fancy biscuits, propper postnatal bubble bath, nipple ointment (doubles as lipbalm if don't bf). If it was my sister I would put 20 in the card too for a takeaway.

If you think they would like it, go for it! In fact when I got home from hospital I found a lovely bottle of imperial stout waiting for me as a welcome home present from my daughter (purchased by my husband obviously!).

If it had been champagne or Prosecco it would have been quietly given away as I don’t like it.

if both normally drink beer get them beer

dont get them champagne or prosecco unless they drink it, its a waste of money and will probably just be given away

See our teddies are still much loved many years later. So much nicer than drinks and sweets which are just gone.

If they both like beer, then get beer. If only he likes beer, that’s a bit of a crap present.

We bought my friends bourbon because that's what they mainly drink, as well as stuff for the baby.

If it was my sister I would put 20 in the card too for a takeaway I’m due in November, can I send you
