Shortness of breath

I’m feeling terrible today.
Really bad headache, I was very shaky but I’ve got shortness of breath.

I’ve been suffering with this on and off since March time. It started like I was getting a cold on my chest. For the past couple of years colds seem to have ended up there leaving me a bit wheezy.

This time is not completely gone.

It can disappear for weeks maybe but then suddenly it’s back.

Really bad today. I walked to the shop- 300 metres and was short of breath. But I’ve been sat working from home and I’m really struggling.

I have been suffering with anxiety for a couple of years but it doesn’t feel like anxiety.

I’m sat quietly now and taking a deep breath is hard but makes me cough when I exhale.

Any ideas. Doctors appointments will take about 5 weeks at the moment

Could be any number of things but my friend had terrible breathlessness and was diagnosed with anemia as the cause.

Thinkle · 24/07/2020 16:54

I had this, plus dizzy spells, chills, fatigue etc. I was told by a private consultant that it was almost certainly covid. And mine comes and goes like this too unfortunately. Do get a doctors appt to rule out other things but if they come back clear then don’t get upset (like I did) and think it’s your imagination. You may well have had covid with the long tail of symptoms. Be prepared for the anxiety fight though. I was initially told it was anxiety without any real probing about my emotional well being.
And make sure you rest x

Why haven't you had a test for covid yet??

I have shortness of breath due to anaemia, and can generally feel quite shaky, tired and crappy when my iron gets particularly low. I'd recommend a blood test

Purplewithred · 24/07/2020 17:05

A gp appointment for recurring shortness of breath is likely to happen sooner rather than later - have you spoken to the surgery at all? I'd be giving them a ring right now.

frustrationcentral · 24/07/2020 17:33

I'd ring the doc, surely they'd have to fit you in with shortness of breath

I often feel like you do when I'm anaemic

Sisterwives · 24/07/2020 17:40

Phone the GP and say it can't wait 5 weeks.

Fanthorpe · 24/07/2020 17:43

You need to be seen OP, difficulty breathing must be taken seriously.

WrongKindOfFace · 24/07/2020 17:43

You need to ring the gp. They will definitely give you an urgent appointment if you’re short of breath, although may be a phone appointment in the first instance.

Fanthorpe · 24/07/2020 17:44

If you’re struggling for breath sitting down you should be seen today.

HappyHammy · 24/07/2020 17:45

Have you got any underlying medical issues. Any temoerature of pain anywhere. Maybe call 111 for medical advice if you cant get to your gp or want to go to hospiral to get checked out.

Katr673 · 24/07/2020 17:48

My friend had similar symptoms last week. Her Gp made her get a covid test and wait for result before they would see her. Her test was negative and she got an appt with her Gp the next day.
