Just looking for recommendations please,
Anyone who's been to Dishoom would you go again? Is it worth the money? And what did you order?
Off to my first post lockdown meal and the menu looks very limited, probably too lage to book elsewhere but I'd rather cancel and try somewhere else next week if it's not worth it.
I need this ti be worth the trip out the front door Grin

I’ve not been to the Manchester one but if it’s the same menu as London it’s fab and would be a great first post lockdown treat. Even the “ordinary” stuff like dhal is delicious.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 24/07/2020 14:40

Not been to Manchester but had a fab breakfast in the London one, and have cooked things from the recipe book - equally delicious.

Ohffs66 · 24/07/2020 14:41

Not been to the Manchester one but I bloody love Dishoom!! The black daal and cheese naan are my favourites and the cocktails are awesome

The chicken ruby curry is delicious, as is the one that's a shared leg of lamb.

SwedishEdith · 24/07/2020 14:41

Been a few times. Food is great.

Quackersandcheese3 · 24/07/2020 15:06

Haven’t been myself but my friend loves it .

Letsnotargue · 24/07/2020 15:22

Another thumbs up for the London ones. The normal menu was huge to the point of being overwhelming for me, and having enjoyed everything we ordered I’d be more than happy with anything they’d bring.

Agree that the house daal (or whatever it’s called) is delicious, as are the gunpowder potatoes. To the point that I bought the recipe book and make the potatoes every time we have a BBQ (after getting some of the more niche ingredients from amazon).

If you decide not to go, I’ll have your booking ;-)

BrowncoatWaffles · 24/07/2020 15:34

DIshooooooom! I'm so jealous. Another one who's only been to the London one but I would kill to go there now.

In fact, I was all excited to have pizza takeaway tonight and now I feel a bit sad in comparison.

I didn't know there was a cookery book though so going to order that! :D

CoffeePleb · 24/07/2020 15:36

Black daal and gunpowder potatoes both excellent. Cocktails are VERY strong. It was good. (Nb this was pre lockdown.)

myrtleWilson · 24/07/2020 15:40

only been to Manchester Dishoom for breakfast (famous bacon naan, keema, chicken livers - all recommended.) But we also have the cookbook and haven't had a dud yet - their chole bature is delicious

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2020 15:41

The recipe book is a thing of beauty.

Haven't been to the Manchester one, but been a fair few times to others. The black dhal is great, the bhel, the chickpea curry, the garlic naan, the breakfast stuff - all good.

Tigger03 · 24/07/2020 15:42

Been a few times - it’s lovely. The special is usually a lamb curry pie thing which is excellent, but all the food is great.

Cheeseybites · 24/07/2020 15:44

Thanks everyone
Will go and give it a try based on what everyone's said
I dont think I'll be disappointed

I haven't been to the Manchester one, but I love Dishoom! Lovely place to go for a first lockdown meal. I might try to go over the weekend...

I bought the recipe book (it arrived today) and my ds has already cooked biscuits from it.

dotdashdashdash · 24/07/2020 16:24

Never been to the London one but the Manchester one is fabulous, really feels like you are being transported to another country. I love it. It is our go-to place for lunch.

MildlyFoxed · 24/07/2020 17:43

Have only ever eaten in the original pop-up, years back, but friends have been enthusiastic about the Kings Cross restaurant. The chole puri was good, and the paneer rolls, and a friend is wild about their dhals.

ritzbiscuits · 24/07/2020 17:50

We ate there (MCR one) last year. It's 'different' to usual Indian places so expect that. Though we had a really nice lunch, had a couple of cocktails and we'd go back. My DH is a proper Indian cuisine fan (cooks all sorts at home) so I'd take that as a seal of approval. He's very critical of restaurants as he thinks he can do it better himself.

Make sure you ask the server for recommendations with it being your first time.

Duvetstay · 24/07/2020 19:38

I had to reply to this as Dishoom Manchester is lovely, it's one of the best meals I've ever had.

Go, you won't be disappointed!

As pp black dahl and gunpowder potatoes are amazing

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 24/07/2020 19:48

Ooh yes, gunpowder potatoes!

blurpityblurp · 24/07/2020 20:26

I normally don’t like sweets but their pineapple crumble is delicious.

Cheeseybites · 24/07/2020 21:01

Ok so we're on our way back home.
It was delicious!
DF got the nihari Biryani which comes topped with pastry which I've not seen before..it was good but not great..
I got the lamb chops, they were lovely and I couldve easily have eaten another portion, I also got the pineapple paneer which was really nice.
Df also got gunpowder potatoes which I nabbed half of and we shared the murgh malai nd the drinks were great too. We did order far too much for us.
It definitely is different to other indian restaurants and more expensive.
I would love to see more on their menu though, I like to try different things each time I go back somewhere and there wasnt much else besides what I got that I'd want to order.
Its definitely worth the visit though and I'm glad I went so thank you for all convincing me.
I now need to go for a 3 hour walk to work it all off!

Their food is lovely and the prices in their London branches are actually fairly average. Thank God no more two hour queues though!

Sforsh49 · 24/07/2020 23:19

I've just bought the book off Amazon after reading this thread. Never been but the bacon naan sounds (and on Amazon looks) amazing and that sold it to me!

KurriKawari · 25/07/2020 01:19

The one in Birmingham comes highly rated too.

myrtleWilson · 25/07/2020 08:10

For bacon naan lovers they do a home delivery kit.... (I think it's still available)
