Why does my bedroom smell of weed?

My bedroom is in the attic and for the last month or so it has absolutely stunk of weed.
None of the other rooms in the house smell and there is no one in our house that would be smoking it. It doesn't seem to smell outside.
I did wonder about an illegal grow but we are in an end of terrace house and next door is currently empty. It has just sold but no one has been in or out in weeks so I don't think that it's likely.

I am considering calling the non emergency police number to ask them what we can do about it but wanted to check whether anyone knew of anything else that could be causing such a strong smell.
I am a bit worried that our baby is due in November and don't really want it in a room that smells so bad. Even more worried that midwives or HV may want to see (and smell) where baby will be sleeping.

Just looked up an old Mumsnet thread and people who had the same issue found that it was, respectively: a decaying seagrass basket, a wetsuit, and the lining of a trainer!

I know it sounds ridiculous, but I would be going around sniffing like a bloodhound to see if I could find a similar source, just to check!

It does need light and water, though, so I would have thought you'd have seen/heard people going in and out to tend to it, tbh.

Well lights get put on timers (see about needing 12/12 to trigger flowering). And like all businessmen, weed magnates try to keep costs (and therefore labour) down. So they tend to grow in some form of substrate that can be watered with pumps and timers for days on end without intervention.

but a commercial grow should really be using a decent extraction and filtration system - meaning the OP wouldn't be smelling anything to start with.

I once bought some " jelly shoes " plastic shoes for the beach from primark and they absolutely stunk out my wardrobe and bedroom and they smelled just like weed / skunk

I know what you mean about coffee. I have sometimes thought the same about bottled beer.
I am going to finish my cuppa and then go on a sniffing mission.

I'd contact the estate agent and ask them to check?

Do you have a wicker linen basket? We had one in the bathroom for towels and if I didn't empty it each night it would not smell very nice in the morning.

Do you own a wetsuit? Mine is new and reeks just like cannabis. My whole cupboard stinks of it.

Id say it's coming from the empty house. I remember a house where I use live being raided and the attic was filled with plants and all sorts of lighting gadgets and metal stuff came out of the house. No one was living there, I never seen anyone go in or out but obviously someone was. It would only take one person every couple of months to sneak in and if their quiet or your out of in bed you wouldn't hear them.

*They're quiet and you're in bed

I have had two things that smelled like cannabis - a rowing machine and a dry deodorant from Lush.

Kreacheriscleaning · 24/07/2020 22:00

No wetsuits or wicker baskets etc. I've tried wondering around an sniffing but can't locate the source of the smell. I have had all of the windows open today though so it's not so strong.
I've just been out to look and there doesn't seem to be any light escaping from the dorma window in next doors attic. I can't tell whether there is a covering on the window though so will check in the morning.
