Cost of resetting a diamond ring.

Hi, are there any jewellers that know the cost involved in resetting a solitaire diamond into my engagement ring? It fell out unexpectedly and I was lucky to find it. Jeweller says the setting needs replacing too so it’s roughly £400. I was hoping the ring would be popped back in!Confused Does that sound like the going rate?

I paid £200 recently to fix my engagement ring. One claw had broken but they replaced all 4 and recoated it (White gold) for that price.

Husband is in the business and assuming the ring doesn't need any work, like the claws need gold adding or anything like that, and that your stone doesn't have any flaws (as it could crack) this is a really simple job and he wouldn't expect to charge more than £50. If you want to PM me, I can send you husbands insta page and he could do the job for you. X

Oh replies good! The whole setting needs replacing as it has worn away. It’s a princess cut diamond in white 18ct gold(4 corner claws) on a yellow 18ct band. So the price is for new setting and resetting. Does that help?

A bit like this. The whole white gold setting is being cut out and replaced.

Hi, I had my solitaire white gold diamond ring reset a few months ago. I took the opportunity to have a new gead and larger claws so it was £140 I think. They were going to charge me about £50 if I had just had it reset more strongly with larger claws. It’s an independent jewellers with their own workshop and I would go back for other repairs.

Sorry meant head not gead Grin I definitely think you have been quoted too much

I paid £300 about six years ago for a ring to be fixed when the band snapped and a two diamond ring to be reset when another jeweller did a terrible job.

lilgreen · 23/07/2020 18:25

This is an independent jeweller with workshop. Getting worried now I’m being overcharged.

You’re lucky you found your diamond! I lost mine 😔😔😔😔😔😔

lilgreen · 23/07/2020 18:27

Yes I know. I feel for you as it’s such a horrible feeling. I was so pleased but then shocked at cost considering I had the diamond!

Just shown husband and he said if it was just the case of adding 4 claws, it would be around £150, but sounds like they’re replacing the whole top part which makes this about the right price.

Ah thanks @StinkEye I appreciate that, thanks for asking him.Smile
