Taking Toddler for a Haircut

Sorry if this sounds silly.

My toddler is desperate for a haircut. I normally take him to the local barber but I’m not sure I should? I know I’ll have to wear a mask, which I do anyway, but he won’t and he’ll definitely have a bit of a tantrum. I don’t want to put anybody in a difficult position or offend anybody.

Maybe I’ll just let it keep growing!

Of course, silly OP should know to make the toddler wait for 16 years or so until he's an adult and it's more appropriate timing for a hair cut Hmm

Back in the real world, hairdressers are varied in their policies on masks so I'd phone and check for somewhere suitable.

I certainly wouldn't want to combine sharp scissors and an unnecessarily distressed or fidgety toddler who can't leave a mask alone. Plus there is no mandate for u11s to wear masks in retail settings in England.

If he will freak out about masks etc then I would probably leave the haircut for a few more weeks. Maybe take him for a few walks around populated areas so he gets used to seeing the masks and wear one yourself at home occasionally so he doesnt find it so scary.

You can get hairdressers who come to your house which might be less distressing for him? Or can you cut it yourself?

Mine had his cut at the weekend.

I had to wear a mask as did the barber. DS didn't.

I brought a lollipop as he usually gets one at the end of a haircut but they aren't doing it at the moment

Sorry, I didn’t word that too well!
He obviously wouldn’t be wearing a mask, he’s also not worried about others wearing them. It’s more the fact, should I be taking a fidgety toddler for a haircut in these current times. Am I going to be causing grief to the barber/other customers unnecessarily.

I’ve tried at home but can’t do it alone. He wont sit still.

Im going to leave it 👍
