New, used, or local?

Say you want to buy a wind chime, just as an example.

Which is the most ethical option

  • buy new from a big brand, and boost the UK economy?
  • buy used, as recycling is at least a toke towards minimising climate change
  • wait until I'm in a coastal area and buy a new handmade one to support small business owners?
  • not buy one at all as it's an unnecessary and frivolous item that represents our consumer culture

This is a small example but I feel I'm in these dilemmas every time I need something

Buy one made from recycled items?

If I was not in a rush, I would buy one locally made at the beach. Support the smaller businesses.
Even better if is made from recycled materials.
