Book recommendations

I'm looking for a delightful, beautifully written, character driven novel to transport me away from the real world please.

I read Crooked Heart by Lissa Evans recently and really enjoyed it. It's about an unlikely pairing during the Second World War.

I've just finished "Freya" by Anthony Quinn, and loved it.

Celeste Ng's books are excellent.

Thanks all. I went to a charity shop today and found 'Everything I never Told You' by Celeste Ng so that's what I've started with . Have made a list of the others and will work through.

Everything I Never Told You is beautifully written, you will enjoy it.

The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley fits the bill.

Elizabeth Strout fits the bill.

Lissa Evans is a brilliant writer too, as a PP mentioned.

I recently read Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout and loved it. Entirely character-driven, set in Maine, US. Each chapter focuses on a different person living in the same town, all of whom interact to a greater or lesser degree with Olive.
