If you were at school in the 1970s, what were some of your classmates names. I think they will be the next names to make a comeback.

@MrsMop1964, Laine is a lovely name, IMO. It was also the name of a character in Mad Men. I had never heard it before.

Loads of Sharon's and Tracy's, ditto Barry's and Gary's. Michael's were always Mick for some reason

Sandra - that's a name long overdue for a revival.

Infants school (73-75) can't remember many of them but my friends were called Elizabeth, Lara and Adeline. Lara and Tamara (which we had one of at my high school) were popular names the year I was born because of the film Dr Zhivago, apparently. I can't remember any of the boys' names from that school except one called Geoffrey, but that was pretty old-fashioned even then I think.

Junior school (75-79; different place as parents had moved)

Girls:
Karen x 2
Caron (just to be confusing!)
Amanda
Jennifer
Deborah
Rachel
Denise (?)
Julia
Wendy
Paula
Helen

Boys:
Sean
Paul
Simon
David x 2
Tony x 2
Luke
Joey
Richard
Mark
Adrian

I went to a girls' high school and I'd say 50% of my year group were called either Sarah, Rachel, Nicola, Alison, Joanne/Joanna, Julie/Julia, Karen, Catherine, Jane, Stephanie or Madeleine.

All the boys my age whom I knew as a teen were called Steve, Mark, Paul, Dave, Gary, Jim, Jon, Pete or Stuart. Literally nothing else.
