HELP! What cake filling...?

I am making a 6 layer rainbow birthday cake. Sponges look awesome.
I will cover with chocolate ganache.
My issue is will it be too rich if I also fill it with the ganache?
So wise humans, do I...

  1. Cover and fill with chocolate?
  2. I also have homemade raspberry jam..could alternate layers but might not look so pleasing?
  3. I could make cream cheese frosting to fill?
  4. Any combination of the above?
Please help, what do you think would be best?

I would do a cream cheese/ plain frosting inside. I think chocolate inside would be too rich

I would just use a white vanilla buttercream. I think chocolate would look maybe odd against the rainbow colours and jam maybe taste a bit strange with the chocolate outer? I made one for DS’s birthday and used vanilla buttercream in between and on the outside with a fondant layer on top (she wanted a music themed one!). It looked fab when cut.

I think for aesthetics and taste a plain white vanilla buttercream :)

Vanilla buttercream would look better to contrast with the sponge colours. I did one for DD 4th Birthday & did white vanilla buttercream inside & outer covering then rainbow coloured buttercream in a pattern around it. Should have done more buttercream between though.

Oh wow, @APurpleSquirrel. That looks amazing, mine won't be quite that standard.
Mine is for a 13 yo so I wanted the outside to be a bit 'grown up'. There will be some glitter and sparkles though!
Thanks for the heads up on the buttercream, I would have spread it quite thin too. I'll make extra Grin.
