Is Argos broken? And did I do it?

Does anyone know what is happening with Argos? I have been trying to find out if something is in stock locally. I have even signed up to an account to show I am serious. But nothing. Website won't let me check f something is available, won't even let me read reviews or put something in my basket to buy. The live chat says they can't talk about orders or availability. Doesn't look as though they are happy for people to turn up at the stores and order an item and pay for it and take it away.

Argos used to be so easy to buy from if you knew what you wanted, but either it's me, or their website is collapsing under the weight of orders.

Has anyone successful ordered from them, to collect, not deliver, and if so how did you do it, is there a secret handshake or a magic word?

It won't even let me set up an account! It says one already exists for my email address, but when i ask for a password re-set nothing ever comes through 🙈 So i'm definitely interested to know if anyone else has had any luck!

I think Argos IS pretty much broken. I looked to order something they actually had in stocks the other day. I could order it that day but not pick it up until a week later. How they expect to get any business that way I have no idea. It was a pair of insoles by the way. Not something huge and unreasonable.

I went into Sainsburys yesterday and while I was there remembered I needed something from the instore Argos. I ordered it on my phone and picked it up 30s later. I have had an account for years though.

My local Argos is still closed. Was at the retail park it is on yesterday. The lights were on, staff were inside but it looked very bare inside, like some of the fixtures and fittings were being removed.

We have a few Sainsburys nearby that have an Argos counter in them. My parents keep telling me that the Argos bit in Sainsburys by them is still open. So I wonder if they will just close off the stand alone shops and plonk them all in Sainsburys.

I ordered something from Argos at the weekend and collected it from my local Sainsburys yesterday without any problems. They even emailed me a link to change my password as I didn't have a clue Grin

Success! I discovered that if you google Argos you get an option to order by the catalogue number, if you know it - look it up on the main site first. And it worked.

Well almost, one item available immediately, the other not until tomorrow. But I'll count it as a success.

No problem at all. I just went on their website and they told me the item I was looking at was available to collect from my local store or home delivery was available.

I would say 99% of non food stuff I have bought during lockdown has come from Argos using click and collect at various branches of Sainsbury's (we had two birthdays plus have bought loads of useful household stuff, replacement mobile phones, new gadgets etc). Not had any problems. Argos have been my lockdown bff.
How strange it's fine for some and not for others.
